I am considering purchasing this guitar off of Craigslist for a project. I would like to know if the origin of this strat is evident by the pictures posted. It looks like a birdseye maple neck but cant really tell. I am guessing it may be a Korean strat, but I am not sure. The truss rod slot at the headstock looks weird with the rod exposed. The poster has it listed at $100 but I am still waiting for his reply to my inquiries. Any and all observations you guys can offer is appreciated!! Thanks!!

To be honest, it looks like somebody's bastyrd child. Missing pickups and controls, afterthought pick guard... I'm no expert, but I'd avoid it. I'm sure the real connoisseurs will be along to give you better information.

Do some more shopping. 8)

I would not be surprised to find out that there is not one part on that guitar that is real Fender. Is it just me or is the headstock shape not right? The truss situation does not seem right. Maybe for a $100 if it plays well. Not a cent more ...

Its not a Fender/Squier product at all. The body shape is off ( The arm contour is too deep, horn areas are all wrong), headstock shape is off, plus no real fender strat has ever had a small headstock with Bullet truss as afar as I know. Bridge looks funky too. Tuners are the Cheap Import type. I wouldn't waste my money. You can get a decent playing Squier bullet for that price and it will have a warranty

It is an out and out counterfeit, surely not a Fender by any stretch of the imagination.

thanks for all the replies! I already have a few decent guitars - however, I am embarking on a newfound interest in the interior wiring and assembling of electric guitars so I am looking for a project guitar that I can fully switch out all electronic parts and some hardware... but I at least want to start out with a decent body and neck. Knowing this is a counterfeit item trying to pass off as a Fender is obviously a deal-breaker.

I can't quite be certain from the pictures, but it's either a 23 fret neck or the 21st fret is missing it's dot marker.

Its hard to tell really. The only thing you can really tell by is the serial number, which can be fake. I'm not sure exactly what the truss bullet stratocasters look like. It could be one of those or imitation of one. I think it would make sense on a 3 bolt neck. Finding out where it says it was made and the serial number would be a help.

I counted them. The last marker is on the 19th.
