There's one for sale on Craigslist right now for $600. Didn't know if that was good or not? I think I've seen Koa strats before that were made in Korea. I emailed the guy to see where this one was made.

Hello JasonSd,

Last summer, local Sam Ash was selling
them for for $629 but that was then and
they don't make em anymore so for the
$600, well if you like it and it's condition
is nice seems like a fair deal for all.

Nice looking guitars they are and play
very well, treat us to some photos if you
swing the deal.

Cheers.

The ones I've seen are koa veneer over basswood.
To me $600 sounds overpriced, but maybe that's just me.

If it was more than a thin veneer of koa--maybe, if it was solid koa--that would be a very good price.

This is correct - it's a Koa veneer only.

I have one and the price is about right for new. Give or take a little. You may not like the pickups in it. I know I sure didn't like the ones in mine but the rest of the guitar is quite good. I swapped in a set of Kinmans and now I love it.

Were the pups standard MIM ceramics? Also ... very pretty guitar, btw.

I think the stock pups were seymour duncans, not sure what model.

I think I'm going to pass on this guitar for now.

Yes, SD AlNiCo Pro II. On the surface you would think they would be wonderful and maybe they have the potential to be wonderful but I could not get a nice rounded tone out of them to save my life. Raised them, lowered them, looked inside and discovered they had 500K Ohm pots so I swapped them all out for 250's and that helped ever so slightly but was not near enough. The Kinmans did the trick and the solderless harness was a breeze to install. I bought the guitar because it was pretty and the neck felt good. I knew I'd prolly have to swap out the pups anyway. What I didn't expect was that they were actually SD pups. I figured the Duncan logo on them would mean they were like Epiphone guitars where Duncan means Duncan "designed" not Duncan made. It's still a bit of a mystery to me because I have tried many Duncan pups over the years and really liked a lot of them. On the plus side I sold the Duncan pups and recouped some of my loss on the Kinmans.

Also the pic doesn't show it very well but the neck is bird's eye maple.
