I expect that you've gotten the idea by now. There's a great deal of trafficking in counterfeit product made possible by the kind of thing you are asking for, as well as neck plates, and serial number decals. Legally, it is known as patent and trademark fraud and is considered a very serious issue in the industry at large as well as by the majority of Forum members. Scroll down to "Beware of fake Strats" on this page.

Just recently we entertained a rather heavy 'threadwar' on the subject. Go to the Custom Shop Forum and scroll down to the "ReliableFender..... posting and have yourself a read. Quite typical of what goes on around here.

Doc

OK! We'll leave it to you then, to acquaint the newbie re: what it's all about? Then you may return to your pummeling of the defenders of the faith.

lol I was kidding

This argument draws two sides. Im all against fake decals. But people who do post things like this at times, might as well be burned alive by the villagers :P

No matter how good you are at putting them on, and no matter how close they look to an original- they still look tacky. I have never seen one that has made me believe that it was genuine. There is allways something that will give it away. If someone can fool me- I'd buy them a beer.
Not because they pulled it off, but they would have a talent by applying them properly in the right place and making it look genuine & period correct.

Someone who has that much attention to detail deserves to be commended, as im sick to death of seeing stupid 'dumb' decals applied to squier affinity necks, trying to pass them off as a 70's neck!!!! ARGHHH!!!!

And yes, not a good idea posting where to buy fake decals on a site where we are against it.

Some will call me a hypocrite if they read the reliablefender thread- we are talking about a true counterfeit-[i] not someone parting out decals here :D

For the benefit of the newbie, and the question put, it was appropriate to understand that there ARE serious issues out here regarding the aftermarket use of such materials.

What's really sad is when custom builders will put a company's logo on the headstock of a guitar they built because "it's what the customer wanted".

The only time I'm looking for replacement decals is when I'm getting a guitar refinished and the headstock is being painted. I've done this with 3 guitars so far.

When it comes to Fender though I leave the headstock as-is because I like the stock maple "finish".

True, there are serious issues you are right. but we must understand that they are readily available, and there is little anyone can do to ensure that they cant be sold, unless you have the full support of the manufacturer and it's legal team- which we dont have.

Otherwise untill we do, this discussion- and many like it tend to go in circles, people get heated, and eventually it gets locked down by Brad because of slander and abuse of others.. Then another will start and will repeat the process... again and again. You get the drift :)

Im not getting into this, I have enough wisdom to not get too involved in a debate that will result in a lockdown, I have strat I'd rather play instead :)

No harm in asking. Everyone knows the fake decals give you better tone. 8)

Your point of view is well taken. We've had quite a bit of that over the past years. Information for information's sake is straightfoward and ought not to provoke debate, which is why I made reference to the other threads.

If you look at the post, stratpack4ever asked where to buy a fender decal. He did not ask where to buy a FAKE decal. Maybe this person is new to the world of FENDER. I dont like the fact that some people assume this person has bad intentions. Maybe try and help this person to understand and educate them. Before you burn them at the stake.

Sad truth is any body can buy a water slider decal kit and make any they want. Many hobby shops sell them because people use them for models when they make them. That's how most of these frauds come about having them for sale.

Yup, no matter if the OP had good intentions or not. If these things are readily available then more victims get duped. I've said before I know no less than 3 people here in Belfast who have been sold fakes. Some people may say they should have known what to look for and in the case of one guy that is true but the other poor buggers were new to guitar-dom and didn't know.

Any guitar that is fake and says Fender on it will likely be sold on as a Fender someday. Say the owner dies and the family doesn't have a clue and sells it on for example. Y'know?

Thats what I mean, even with intentions to keep it as their own someone could fall victim to a fake someday.

As they say here in Ireland, thats bad craic.
