just got a new am deluxe strat as a gift for christmas. anyone aware of the process for getting something fixed on it through fender? the bridge tone pot is rubbing on the pickguard and is possibly damaged-it feels like it rolls off the pot on the hi side :(

If it's a new guitar I'd take it back to where it was purchased firstly
and welcome to forums, theres guys alot more informed than me though maybe have an easy fix

Whatever it is, it is minor. Either the knob itself is pushed down too low on one side and is grinding against the pickguard (which I suspect) or less likely, the center of the knob which grips the shaft of the pot is off center or, the split shaft of the pot is outright broken.

Take it back and let the dealer deal with it. The dealer should give it the once over before handing it to you. If he didn't, shame on him.

Welcome Sperry,whip it back to the dealer,as another poster said the guitar should have been checked over by the dealer before it left the shop. It may just need a simple fix or maybe the shaft got bent by an impact of some sort.

If you mean that the bridge tone control knob is harder to turn, that's normal with the no load tone control on that guitar. It takes a harder turn to get the knob off 10 but once it's past that it turns normally.
