This is for you wood experts, I have an alder bodied american deluxe. :P :P :P
Is it a bad idea, a waste of time or is it worth doing?
I placed a few big packs of silica gel in the case, will it dry up the wood or will it help? I leave the guitar in the case in my basement which feels a bit damp, any thoughts? :?: Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't purposely leave my guitar in a damp place like a basement.

It needs to live where you would want to live.

I have always gone by the rule that if I feel comfortable then my guitar will feel comfortable.

I for one would not feel comfortable in a damp basement.

If you truly love her then you'll release her from the basement. When bringing her up to a warmer climate don't open the case right away, give her some time to adjust.

Extreme humidity, or lack of, can be an issue with anything made of wood. I can't see the need for keeping a specific humidity (within 10 points of a given amount) for a solid body instrument. Maybe if I you've got a room full of vintage Martins, but not for a Strat or Tele. I think keeping the guitar anywhere that you'd be comfortable is a good rule.
