Hi, i own a Hot Rod 62 and a Classic 60 (with 57/62 pickup) strats.

I read somewhere that "american vintage sc pickups" that came with HR are 57/62, but when i hear the 2 guitars, the HR is more bright. Is it possible that just better wood or hardware do that ?

I measured that pickups have same resistivity (5.6K) on bridge and neck, the middle is 5.8k. The 57/62 are all 5.6K.

If i want a more dark (soft) sound, what pickup must i put on it ?

Kind regards and Merry Christmas.

(please excuse my Tarzan english !)

More likely difference in the strings (new versus old) or pickup heights or even slight differences in how and where you are picking.

Most people say that maple is brighter than rosewood.

Same strings, same pickup height, rosewood on both (but not same rosewood).

For me, american vintage single coils are not 57/62 pickups.

Hi, i put 57/62 in my Hot rod 62 stratocaster today. Now, i have the sound i was looking for. I measured the 3 American vintage single coil pickup.

Neck :5.79k black, white wires
Mid : 5.95k black, yellow wires (reverse wound)
Bridge: 5.83k black, white wires

So: American vintage single coils are not 57/62 pickups !

I recall reading on another forum that the American Vintage Re-Issue '62 (and the AVRI '57) have the 57/62 pick-ups, but that the Hot Rod '62 has different pick-ups which aren't available for sale as after-market parts like the 57/62s.
