I'm looking to do some customization to my Highway One.
I really like John Frusciante's tone, and I know he uses 60's era Strats
('62 and a '69 I think), and I was wondering what pickups I could get to better achieve his tone.
Fender makes the '69 reissues, is that what I'm looking for?

Also, I read somewhere something like that if I buff my guitar with car wax, it would run the finish down faster? What is that all about?

Any other ideas y'all have, I'll be glad to here them.

I love the worn look of guitars.

Thanks.
Cody.

If you buff it out with wax you will make it shine.

The best way to give a guitar that worn out look is to play it a lot and wear it out from use.

Possibly a set of Fender '57/'62's?

I used a mild rubbing compound and a fine cloth. This buffed up my HWY1` realy nice. It doesn't look like a brand new gloss paint job. It looks very old school. I love it.

I think the Custom Shop 69's were only used for a short time by Fender, but I have a set and they are great sounding pickups Very fat sound in the neck, the bass notes have a nice thump. The bridge has a nice gritty tone, especially depending on the amp being used. The in-between positions have that jangly strat tone.

I'll be using a Vox AD100VT, and my friend has an original Blues Deluxe 212 (I believe, I always forget the name) from 1957, I'll play through.
