im totally gassing for a smaller but ballsier amp than the bassman.
dont get me wrong, i totally love the bassman.

im thinking of the blues jr, due to its size and portability, and ballsier side.
yet with the tone im not ripping the paint off the walls.
the room that i practice in is 24x 26, so its pretty big.
imo, too big for a vibrochamp. maybe a scxd. i think a blues deluxe is really cool. i like the tone off of the blues jr more.

then there is the delta blues. 2 best buys and guitar center, and noone has one to try it.

ps im looking at 500-800 price range.

You should check out the Egnater Rebel 20, its at the top of your price range, but i've only heard good things about em.

Also, ive tried the delta blues. a really nice sounding amp, but it is really heavy.

go with the 15 watt blues jr. Great tone, lite weight, just enough volume for small jams. I use my jr. all the time unless I play a bigger club/venue. The blues jr. is great in small bars, specially when your stuck in a tight corner with the rest of the band.

Your heading for a world of hurt by pitting any of the hotrod amps against a bassman, particularly the blues failiure. Its a soul less one trick pony thats hard to dial and has a particularly ugly midrange. Its noisy has a weak reverb and very poor construction. Its like comparing a

to a

Also I'd question why you need to get more power from the Bassman. Their a pretty ballsy amp, certainly the best of fenders offerings for driven sounds. Aside from their solidstate high gain amps. Are you turning it up enough? You need that volume on around 7/8. I know thats not the most practical application of that amp, but its where the best sounds are hidden.

hey nik, funny respond.

however, i dont need more power than my bassman.

no i want a smaller amp thats more portable to jam with my buddies.
and when i practice at home, i want tone without having to repaint the interior walls.

my friend was telling maybe i should get the super champ xd.
is it loud enough? i know the vibrochamp wasnt that loud. well according to a couple of hours of play.

i know the hot rod deluxe, blues deluxe are heavy. probably to heavy.

all in all, you dont like the blues jr huh?

I get a half usable sound out of my blues Jr, tele and a reverb pedal. If I want a rockabilly kind of sound. It seems pretty useless for anything else. Its not clean enough for knopfler/marvin sounds. It's midrange sound ruins it for any sort of driven work. I think mine must be the worst purchase I've made. Initialy I thought it was me not being used to it. I've changed speakers, modded the mid range and just cant make a half decent versatile amp out of it. If the superchamp sounds like the vibrochamp its a far superior amp just for the 50's tweed setting, never mind the other 15 models. If I were looking for a multitude of sounds in a practice amp thats the way I'd go. Other than that I'd be looking for a basic as hell 10-20 watter. The pro Junior looks to be a great choice, sounds great too.
I'd also be tempted to try the DRRI or Princeton but cant comment on them as I've not tried them.

SuperChamp XD is far below your budget and would suggest that one.

When I was buying a small amp for the same purpose as yours, I auditioned Pro Jr, Blues Jr and SuperChamp (VibroChamp was not available at the time). SuperChamp Xd was best of the bunch. Very useable channels well voiced and flexible enough that you don't need to lug your pedals. It has everything you need on board if you are not a perfectionist (you got to understand that it is a $300 amp).

It is built in China so build quality and tube quality can vary. Try if you can more than one.
Very versatile and sounds great. People usualy replace speaker and tubes for supposedly even better tone.

If you want the best of both worlds, Bassman and Vibrolux sounds, get a SuperSonic combo. 60 watts may be too loud, but its a versatile amp. I think they should make a 30 watt version, though. Fender are you listening? Yeah its pricey, but you'll get what you pay for.

I also like the Princeton Reverb 15 watt amp. But I am a reverb hound and I love that old Vibrato function.

I think he needs the '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. It's a significantly sweeter sounding amp then either the Blues Deluxe or the Blues Junior. Of the Hotrod series of amps only the Deville delivers a tone anywhere near that of the old treasured Fender amps. It's big and heavy so it's not an option. Go with the DRRI.

My 2¢.

I'm going to be the odd man out here (as usual). I had been looking at the Blues Jr's myself for quite a long while...and watching the price go up and up over that time. I didn't really have the money for one when they first came out and now that they are up in to the $500 price range, I just couldn't bring myself to buy one. So what did I end up getting?

Bugera V22

Seriously, if you haven't played one of these suckers, check them out before you buy anything else...really a mind blowing little amp! This is really the single most versatile amp I have seen at even double the price range. In "triode mode", it really has that "vintage" sound to it...very comparable with my old '73 Bandmaster and with the flick of a switch you can go to "Pentode Mode" which gives it more of a Marshall-like tone. Press the "Boost" button and it starts to sound like an old Vox "Top Boost"...you really can get 3 very distinctive sounds out of these suckers. Don't just take my word for it either...check out the reviews. 95% of the reviews I've read on the V22's are rating this amp as truly excellent!

Again I'm often the odd ball here and I certainly do tend to like things that are a bit "different". That said a hand wired, all tube amp (ok...the stupid reverb is digital), for $350...these suckers sound great and they're a real steal!

Just a little something from "the fringe" to consider :-)

Peace,
Jim

I have had one for about two years. I hated it till I got this thing called then Ominsonice. It fits in to the loop in/put . Now I can play my amp at 7 or 8 and keep the volume down and not piss off the band. You will also find as I did that I hardly ever use my distortion any more.. Mark
