When I try to screw in my trem bar it seems to like it's hard to thread the bar into the hole. Is this normal?

It can be. Especially if it's a new guitar. Just take your time and it should get easier each time you screw it in.

i had the same problem with my american std, i exchanged the trem bar.
problem solved.

the trem bars are machined shopped to specs. sometimes they can be slightly misaligned causing problems in the thread.
