Hi, I'm from England and I noticed that my local Costco store is selling a Fender Stratocaster kit with guitar, amp etc... (not a squier but an actual Fender) but it says on the back of the neck that it is made in China, are some Fenders made in China because i've heard from numerous places that there only made in USA, Mexico and Japan. I cannot seem to find any made in China Strats sold anywhere else?

I know Squiers are made in China, Korea, Indonesia etc but it definately said Fender and didn't have any Squier text or logos on it or the box anywhere.

I'll bet if you take another look at the box, you'll find that it's a "Starcaster by Fender", not a standard Fender. They sell those at Costco in the States, too.

I guess it is remotely possible but I remember distinctly looking at the box and the guitar and couldn't find it anywhere, that's why i'm so intrigued because if i'm going to get a Squier i can get it cheaper elsewhere. But I have seen one or two places that say Fender now make some budget guitars in China, is there any truth in this?

it's a squire or copy.

they're not bad at all. all my friends first guitars were squires and years later they still play pretty well. one of them has sat in a damp basement for years as a community use for anyone who shows up and wants to play. the only probably with them is sustain. but thats easy to fix by locking out the trem. i never used it, and the thing rings on and on with it locked out.

the playability down the neck is still good.

I doubt a store like Costco would sell a copy. But Fender definately don't make any Chinese versions?
