On the subject of the thread, I had the opportunity to meet Mayer and I asked him about his collection of Hendrix strats. He was modest and wouldn't specify how many he had, but did say that he tried to part with one once and had to go to great lengths to get it back, realizing he made a mistake. Regardless of whether or not he plays any fakes, he does have at least a few real Monterey strats, along with his Reverse Prototypes and misc. other Hendrix related stuff.

I just think he's too shedy for my tastes.

Interesting. The Albert Hall DVD did not leave me with that impression at all. My impressions jibe with straycat's.

Chanman, you know that John Mayer throws "tapping and other stuff like that in" while playing blues, right? They actually both somewhat similar. If you are infatuated by one, why in the world would you slit your wrist before going to the other's concert? Actually, why in the world would you slit your wrist to go to ANY concert and be able to listen to ANY music. Open your mind, bud. Stop listening to just one artist/genre. You'll find there's a lot of good stuff out there.

I just won't. I have seen pretty much every big concert to come to my town in the last 2 years (Clapton/Winwood, Vasn Halen, The Police, Mayer, Buddy Guy, the list goes on) and the only artist that will never be on that list, save for Kayne, is Joe Bonnamassa.

hey chanman,
let me start by saying congrats on your new gibson lespaul.
i love les pauls, they have an amazing tone.
even though, im more versatile with a strat.

im a big john mayer fan. oh bythe way seen your stuff on youtube. very talented fella.

but im as a big a joe bonamassa fan. i wont compare either. because both are musically talented. and there is a couple of songs that it will take a while longer to grow on me.

i can honestly say, john mayer where the light is is where he really shines, blues hooks and riffs.

hey man,

thanks! I love my paul, though I also am more versatile on a strat lol (I'm going to swap the chrome hardware for all gold hardware)

I will completely agree that WTLI is where John Shines live. one of the best shows I've seen, both on DVD and Live.
