after a couple weeks of wrestling with my strat's intonation, i bought a new tuner and realized that was the problem. also found that playing with pickup height gives a whole range of sounds. tightened the tuners on the head and it stays in tune alot better.

so now that my faith is restored in fender for the moment, and plays reasonably well i decided im not going to can it for a les paul. for a while at least. the frets are worn down (they must be made out of super soft material), and one even has a dent in them from the string! my relationship with the guitar will last as long as the frets. this thing just insn't worth refretting and i figure its got a couple more years left on it.

but alas, now the finish is peeling! There are a couple dents and scratches which is fine. i've played the hell out of it for 5 years, lots of jams and moving around. it's expected. in the back there is a spot where the green thin coat laquer peels and chips off. i have no idea how it started - theres no impact mark, scratch, or wear marks. my question is what should i use to paint/touch up that spot to keep it from chipping off?

help!

Sounds to me like the paint is just wearing away from use. Leave it be those are like a badge of honor.

lol. yeah maybe your right.

there appears to be a sealer coat underneath. i would like to prevent it from moisture damage, that is my main concern.

and yes... a worn guitar doesn command respect, specially if you play well  .. hey ladies...

if its a highway one, they use a super thin nitro finish. so after 5 years of playing, yeah, it would probably be wearing off nicely. if you think that moisture will be a problem with it, you might want to touch up the spot with a sealer, and paint over it if you want.

i would leave it, wear marks are something to be proud of.

I'm sorry that your not very happy with your HWY1, but as to the finish, that's what happens when you use a "nitro." They please, chip and whare thin quick. I have a picture ofd eric clapton playing a red Tele that looks like a dog got a hold of it and I'm sure the guitar was pretty new when he got it.

What may have caused the pealing in temprature and moisture change. Wood breaths, swells and contracts with these changes.

I hope that this helps.
