Wipe it with a clean cloth? That's really about all a guitar needs.

I use a polishing cloth and GHS "guitar gloss" polish. I polished it good when it was brand new. I wipe it down every day and polish and throughly clean every time I change stings, including the neck and fretboard (maple neck)..about every two months.

For the relic look, go in with paint stripper then lightly buff with sand paper..

Or just use a good quality silicon free generic guitar polish. An occasional lemon oil treatment (only) on a rosewood finger board and you're done. A soft bristle brush (I use a pastry brush) around the pickups, control knobs and bridge just to keep the dust off. 2 times a year, a good electrical contact cleaner (NOT WD40!!) sprayed into the switch slot is always worth doing to keep it crackle free.

Don't over oil the fretboard. I don't clean mine all that much. They have lots of Mojo now.

I use a microfiber cloth. If it is too bad, I sometimes use End Dust on the Microfiber cloth. A little lemmon oil on the Rosewood fretboard every 3 to 4 months or as needed. If you have a maple fretboard, again I would just use my microfiber cloth. Do this after each time after you play. Don't forget the strings too. No need for guitar polish unless the finish starts to look dull.

On the neck, pick guard, headstock, fretboard, and strings I just wipe them down with a micro fiber cloth. On the black body I give a nice old cotton rag (t-shirt) one shot of Pledge and wipe until it shines without streaks. The Pledge removes smears that don't seem to wipe off very easily and it doesn't build up on the finish. I even use Pledge on both my motorcycles windshields.

I though that Pledge contained Silicon? Of the generic furniture polishes/sprays, I know that "Sparkle" is silicon free..

I wasn't sure about that but according to the MSDS (material safety data sheet) for the product, you are correct. It does contain a silicon. Here is a link to the information I viewed. http://www.fsafood.com/msds/vault/002/002858.pdf Note that it states "Polymerization: Hazardous polymerization does not occur" Section 10 - Page 2.

I have used this product with confidence on many surfaces and have never found it to adversely affect anything when I have applied it, even a chromed face shield on a full helmet I use while riding my FZ1. It makes my black Strat just gleam.
