I love my American strats. I definitely prefer them over a MIM. I feel the fit, sound and finish are much better. But hey, that's what I like.

1996 Mia standard strat in black
2000 Am DLX strat in transparent teal
2006 CS Strat pro in white
2008 Mia standard strat in burst

Oh, 2004 MIM Tele, plays ok, not digging the fret markers protruding from under the finish on the neck.

I have to admit that having a "Made in America" label on my guitars are important to me for many reasons but mostly because I am proud of the country that has adopted me. More so during these economic times. But laid side by side there is no doubt as to the quality of the individual components and fit and finish, but that is to be expected for paying X2, X3 and even X4 what you'd pay for an import.

The MIM is a fine guitar..........BUT the MIA Strat just felt and played better, and I have always wanted to own an "authentic" Fender and now I do :)

Country of origin matters not one jot to me. Quality and price does. Fender USA offers the best of both worlds. Supremely playable guitars at a very realworld price.
