I just bought a brand new Strat vintage '62 Hot Rod. When I got home from the guitar store I put on a new set of strings and there was a fret buzz. I did a setup to Fender's spec but still have fret buzz. When I called the store to ask if they could fix it I was told that this is normal with the neck on this guitar. Is this true? Any advice on reducing fret buzz?

What strings do you use ? .010''s is standard for vintage guitars.
Try setting the strings higher quite a lot and then lowering them till
they begin to buzz a little.
How is your neck relief ? is it to straight ?
Maybe the nutslots are cut to deep.
New strings always buzz more, stretch them a few times.

Good luck,

Peter

I have a '62 American Classic Player from Musician's Freind, which is basically the same guitar as the new '62 Hot Rods.No buzz after the proper setup.I'm using 11-49 gauge strings, put just a slight relief in the neck, and have the action a little lower than Fender's specs. No buzz open or fretted up to about the 14'th fret, then I have to play a little more gently or I will get some crash. You have to remember that the neck is a piece of wood and they are all different. If you can't get it set like you want it,take it to a professional for setup. If it still is not right take it back to the dealer and raise hell.Companies like Fender are huge, but they still need to keep there customers happy, because if they don't word will get around and someday people won't buy their instruments just for the name.Mine has a good neck, but the neck pocket in the body is a little sloppy. Can't keep it lined up correctly under the strings.
My Ibanez does not have that problem,or any others.
