I recently bought a very nice 1993 Vintage White Jeff Beck body. By all appearances it looks like a Strat Plus body, so I thought. As you guys (and ladies) know, the wideth of a standard Strat (and Tele) neck socket is 2 3/16 inches. To my dismay this neck socket is just a hair under 2 1/4 (2 4/16). It has not been tampered with. Any Strat necks I place on the body has either a big gap or extra wood hanging over the side, depending which edge I tuck the neck up too

Have any of you heard of odd sized factory neck pockets from Fender?

I've seen a few oversized pockets. Nothing in that 57mm range though. In this case could it not be because the early JB guitars had gargantuan necks? Does your 93 fall into that category.

If so perhaps its something that Jeff specified on his guitars to match the supersized neck.

That is what I am thinking too, as the pre-1999 JB Strats used the "baseball bat" neck. The only thing is, I have searched everywhere on the web about info on this and came up with nothing. I have fitted necks on Strats and Teles for years, and ran into a few tight neck sockets, but nothing like this. i might end up selling the body off as none of my necks fit right, and I really go for the tight neck sockets on my guitars.

Doesn't the Jeff Beck also have the contour heel?

Only on the new models 1999 (or 2000) and later. You can find out more about the JB models history on my website:
