I bought a new Highway One Strat 2006 upgrade in February '07 and was uneasy when bringing it home because the nut didn't look cut right. That was the start of my problems...

After all these months I thought to look, (not touch), the truss rod and neck relief. I checked the allan wrench that came with my guitar and noticed it looked a little worn. I put the allan wrench in the truss rod and noticed a lot of loose play, so I suspect either it came from the factory stripped or the people at the store I bought it from stripped it while setting it up. I know it's the correct allan size. I have my reciept but I am very dissapointed in learning about a possible stripped truss rod, along with a very poorly cut nut. So I'm unsure how to proceed? The store, Willis Music offers an additional 1 year warranty on top of fender's warranty. Will they do a repair or replace the whole neck? How long is the turnaround time? Will they take the stance that I damaged it?

Can any highway one owners verify if you have the correct allan wrench how much play if any there is with your truss rod?

I recently purchased a new fender deluxe player strat. The quality is soo much better than the highway one ironically. I just want to get the highway 1 fixed and get rid of it. The allan wrench that came with the deluxe players fit's very snug in the truss rod, no problems there. Maybe I just got a lemon highway one??

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!

The only way to find out is to give it a try and bring it to them. Of course they are going to ask why you didn't mention the nut when you found out 10 months ago. And.... of course they are going to wonder if you stripped the truss rod. No offense, but if I was a shop owner, I would wonder too. Thats a long time to wait.

I'd definitely try to bring in for warranty repair. If the shop doesn't want to help you, try Fender directly.

Hi
I have a similar problem. I recently purchased second hand, an almost unused 06 american tele. It was a genuine sale, and I dont think the guitar has been touched since it was purchased. The neck needed a spot of adjustment. The (original) 1/8 allen key has a very sloppy fit, and slipped when I tried to use it. However using a torch I can see the hex nut is in good condition, and should easily be servicable. I have two possible conclusions, 1, Fender have used a different version of the 1/8" allen fitting, I which case I hope someone can advise on the exact key required, or secondly it is still supposed to be an 1/8" socket, but produced to a very poor standard, in which case, I will file down another allen key to fit. I am not very happy with either possibility!
If the first case is correct, I feel there should be some info available, and if the second case is true it is a poor show.
There must be other people with the same nut, so I wonder what solutions were found. I really hope someone can give me some good advice. Thanks
