Let's start a thread for the owners of 50th ann guitars. I just hope this hasn't been done before.

Give me your pros and cons.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being highest, I would give the 50th, a 12 as far as Strat's go.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I find nothing remarkable about mine. Of course, the quality, etc. is all there but there is nothing that sets it apart from what I would expect.

And here's where it hits the fan: The plain truth is, I like my MIM Deluxe Players Strat infinitely better.

Well despite previously disparaging my 50th anni, I gigged it lastnight.

Everything went well, really well actualy for a ungigged guitar.
I'd give it a7-8/10.
The S1 is great but theres better options and looking at other S1'd guitars theres probably better applications of the gizmo. I love scn's but the bridge pickup is needs something. I dont think its more output or more mids (i think it gets just the right amount for that position). Its more like more 'grain'. It tends towards the vintage noiseless kind of tone.
The thing stayed intune remarkably well. Something I've always worried about at home. Its just never seemed that stable in the kitchen, hence me taking over 6 months to gig it.

One negative. The trembar on these deluxe guitars is angled all wrong. I set mine for a open G-Bb pull up and theres hardly any dip the bars so close to the scratchplate. Still thats a very minor niggle that a drummer (my drummer did) can fix. Oh and it needs something doing to the 2point trem. They dont sound right clean.

Tell you what it is with all the standards and deluxes. Their a guitar for everyone. Kind of a Volkswagon of guitars. Their going to get you anywhere you want to go and with a fair deal of comfort and do so for many journeys across many miles. Their never going to be as fast as a BMW 335M or as comfortable as a Jag though. In other words their designed to suit all and excel (and thereby alienate some) at non. Thus leaving the market open for you to look to the brand for the guitar that will ultimately suit you. Also the company have performed a excellent bit of advertizing that not only pays for itself but sells a product after its already sold a product. Most American standard and deluxe owners go on to buy more specific instruments.

I am only compairing it to other Strat's I've had. I play alot of Gibson's too. To me, the S-1 switching, is very useful. I also have used it alot w/open tunings.

It's the only one, where the scale length is felt. To me, it has a slightly different neck. But, the overall sound, is great just ran direct into my recorder. The pickups are absolutly the definition of noiseless.

I bought the first one in my area, and have only used it for recording purposes. Maybe giving it a 12, was a bit too much.

Well Mat given your philosophies on the only true strat being a SSS guitar, thats where you need to start looking. It's pointless you trying the new Jim Root model isnt it. Theres a plethoria of guitars to fit the bill at varying pricepoints. Theres only a few all singing all dancing guitars that maynot do any one particular aspect as well as a dedicated to whatever guitar. Do cover all bases more than adequately.

Night all.

What amazed me about this particular guitar, when I bought it, I changed out the pickguard for a white pearloid. It's a beauty! (I'll have to post a pic of it).

But, what amazed me about the guitar, was ALL THE WIRES!! I really don't think a '57 Chevy has as many wires! I'm just glad there are people that actually know how to work on the dang things!

My wife gave me a 50th Ann. Strat for my 50th B'day and it's sweet, feels great in my hands and the pups sound beautiful when played clean. The only issues I have with it are the trem came with only 3 springs hooked up and no extra springs(I prefer 5)and I'm still on the fence about the tone control affecting the bridge pup.
