Hey guys,

Just wanted to get some more information on this early model of John Mayer Strat. I have heard it is limited to only 100, but I have also heard a rumor that these 100 were masterbuilt... Does anyone know the whole story on these rare strats?

Also I have seen pictures that some JM Strats have 5 springs in the vintage trem, and some only have 3... what did the Charcoal Frost ones originally come with.

I just purchased one off of Ebay and wanted to know as much as I could! Thanks!

All JM Strats come stock with 5 springs, some people just remove some to suit their preference because it is really hard to work the trem with 5 springs. They just pop in out so it is no biggie. They did only make 100 but they were not masterbuilt. John has one and his is masterbuilt, but the others were just regular production.

What is the best way to tell if it is real or fake?

What are the serial numbers supposed to be for the JM charcoal frost guitars?

Serial number should be on the Neckplate and Start with an "SE". Mayer's Signature should be on the back of the headstock in the top little "ball". Also neck doesn't have a "Skunk Stripe" going down the back of it, and should be a satin finish. Pickups should be black bobbin with "JM" written on the back of them.If you post pics I should be able to tell you.

Like the Cypress Mica JM of '07, the CFM was limited Edition. all 100 are based off John's CFM, which J. Cruz masterbuilt for him. John's personal instrument has Cruz's masterbuilt logo, along with "PROTO" in place of a serial # on the headstock. the neckplate is blank.

it has been debated if it was built in the FCS or not.

like Yogi said, they come stock with 5, but some remove them due to preferences.

I would love to see pics as well to help with verification.

if you don't know how, go to www.tinypic.com , and upload the files there, then copy the link with the codes
