Hi all--

I found a fellow on Craigslist who said he had a "mint" JM Cypress Mica Signature Strat for sale, which I agreed to buy. He then emailed me the following with the following pics (I'll attach pics once I get home to my own PC), but I have no idea what to make of it!

Can someone with more knowledge than me please advise me as to what this all means?

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!

-GregB777

Here's the email:

Hey Greg,
Since we are getting closer I wanted to tell you completely of the John Mayer....I got it from a Artist(have his CD) he told me he got it from his lead player...I went on line before I looked at it to get complete details....
John Mayer sig on back of head stock...string tree higher on the headstock,African rosewood...tall jumbo frets...no back plate ever mounted...shielding under pick guard...JM switching on pickups...special routing under bridge PU, special bridge(vintage but with pop in arm special vintage LOCKING tuners....it's all there

as I verified these features I did not notice there was no number on the neck serial plate...it had a vintage "F" plate....I did not notice that until I took it to Guitar Center for trade...they looked at it and called Fender...they said they had no doubt it was a jonh mayer but no way to verify which one of the 500...I call Fender and sent pic's...they said the same thing...the Production markings are from that model and it is one of the 500 but no way to know which...I have put may birthday plate on her SE 05256 I was born May 2 1956...
it is a great guitar for a good price but if you where going to flip her the only way would be to part her out on ebay...you'd make a couple hundred but that is the only way...
I deal straight with people...that is who I am...if you want to bail I understand...no harm no foul...I have some Mesa Boogies in line for trade...let me know how you feel about all of this

Thanks

He's distancing himself from any responsibility for the guitar's history.

RUN and don't look back!!!

This is merely IMO, YMMV.

His email certainly makes me pause for thought,I have a gut feeling this isn't quite kosher.
