hey winter, i have an MG100dfx and i have plenty of quack through my clean channel, although the overdrive takes a lot of it out. what i do is i have my eq set to drive the mids and highs (bass ~ 6, mid ~ 4, treble ~ 7.5), i constantly have that tube emulator on, and it works out fine. It isn't stellar, but I got a fantastic Celestion speaker from a friend that I installed in there and it sounds a little cleaner. Basically the whole setup was free, and I'm really psyched about the quality because it was free, but my next big purchase is going to be either a Blues Deluxe reissue or a AC30.

i personally don't feel like I'm lacking in jangle though 8)

Okay, so if the amp plays such an important part in the sound (a point I don't disagree with), what would be a good amp if you're a hobbyist whose guitar-playing pretty much consists of playing along with backing tracks, etc.? I've read a lot of reviews and they're pretty much all over the place so its hard to figure out what is considered a really decent amp for someone who doesn't play in a band or play outside the home...

I have a Blues Jr Tweed NOS, and I think it is perfect for what your looking for..... that's pretty much exactly what I use mine for, and I LOVE the tone!

My Blues Junior has seen most of the BillM mods performed on it and it's even better for that purpose but I no longer have any need for it so I've been thinking it might be time to let it go. Still Jonesing for a Vibro-King but can't justify the expense when I already have too many amps as it is. I currently have more amps than guitars.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I have a similar amp and had the same problem when playing it through
my 4x12 cab. I tried it through my 2x10 cab and the quack came back.
I find that strats sound better through 10 inch speakers, but in the end,
tone is a matter of personal preference. What sounds good to me might not sound good to you.
