I have an Eric Clapton strat, I received it for my 40th b-day, in 1995. I've had it for 15 yrs. It is, to me, 'The Guitar'. No problems at all.

my best sounding guitar is surprizingly my italia marranello standard in salmon pink/ red. i have changed the pickups to red seymour duncans, sh-4 and sh-2, it sounds like a dream and it plays beautifully, and out of all my guitars, my gibson les paul i think it was the 1993 and my fender strat 2001. My italia plays and sounds better than these two! clean and distorted, and thats excelent for me because i play rock, to blues. i recomend the itali, standard pickups were fab in it too!

My musical collaborator's Yamaha SG2000S is the best feeling elec guitar I've ever had in my hands. Not the best sounding, but to feel it and play it - it's like butter..

I said in this post back in Dec that my John Lennon 65 Casino ,my 65 Strat and a 78 lefty Strat I had were a 3 way tie but I forgot about a 62 3 pup Les Paul Custom-SG body with gold plating and vibrola. This guitar had been sent back to Gibson for a complete restoration in 74/75 and was a real "fretless wonder"the strings were closer to the neck than any other I've ever played. When they set up this guitar they must have spent countless hours refining the action.I could have gotten that guitar and a 69 Marshall 1959 plexi stack with 100 W cabs-cabs and head finished in"elephant hide"Tolex and blue grills-all from factory-for a paltry $1200 in 1976 but didn't have the presence of mind to take out a loan to get it,that and the 64 reverse body Firebird VII that I also could've gotten for $400 around the same time will always haunt me.

For me it is a tie between my 2010 MIM Strat, my 2009 HWY 1 Tele and my 2010 Gretsch 5120 They sound and play like no other guitar I have ever owned or played. A distant 2nd place is my 1977 Strat.
ABS :D

IMO, nothing beats a master built from the custom shop. These guys really know what they are doing when it comes to a sweet playing guitar. Are they expensive? Yes. but I say its worth it. Thank you to Grover Jackson, Mike Eldred, Todd Krause, Steven Stern, and Mike Shannon for taking part of the building process of my guitar.

For the best sounding it's actually a three-way tie between my:

1963 Fender Jaguar (Original Fender Stock Pickups)

Image

2008 Fender Custom Shop '52 Telecaster Special Edition (Custom Shop Twisted Tele/Broadcaster)

Image

2004 Gretsch G6120DSV SD Custom (Seymour Duncan Custom Shop DynaSonics)

My first guitar, Ivan (sadly he's laid up broken when on an airplane) was amazing. A cheap ibanez but still it was just good. Although it was made of cheap wood and bits of plastic i loved him and he sounded great. I just love this guitar because of the emotional attachment i will never let it go.

My second was a Red Godin LG with two humbuckers. I call him Rudolph. I got him at my local guitar shop. THe neck is super thin which i love and it has such a great sound. The quality is amazing. When i play it feels like an american strat.

My third guitar is a seagull grand (godin owns seagull) named Lucy. I got lucy after wanting a travel guitar and also to have more of a brighter lighter sound. I installed a fishman pick up in it because for awhile it was a guitar i gigged with (i play in a folk group) originally i was going to use ivan but he was wounded. The seagull filled the role but i really needed a dreadnought after telling this to my dad he suprised me and got me a j-45

The j-45 is named Perry (after one of the murderers in "in cold blood" he played a gibson and i was reading it in school at the time i got it) The j-45 is just a powerful punch its loud and and powerful and has become my folk groups primary 6 string.

In the future i am hoping to get a 62 reissue strat in surf green. I played one at guitar center and i think i fell in love.

For Strat's my Custom Shop 56 NOS, but on a whole other dimension the one at the top is the D'ambrosio El-Rey Model, carved archtop body shaped like a Les Paul, hollow, multiple options for finish, built to order, inexpensive it is not, but amazing as far as sound spectrum.

Matt "Otto" D'ambrosio is a luthier located in Rhode Island, builds mostly archtops but will build to suit.
