Both Strats, sort of:

- I have a cheap Strat copy that sounds incredible. New pickups, of course - a set of early-1960s-sounding vintage-voiced pickups. But it taught me that it doesn't have to be the Real Thing to sound fantastic.

and

- A '57 AVRI I played last year. Plays better than my copy, the sound is as good (not better, surprisingly!), costs about $2000 more. ;) One day, one day.

I would have to say my father's Bourgieous OM acoustic. One of Dana's coveted first 500 guitars built under his own name. For those who have not heard of him, he was a masterbuilder for Martin for many many years.

Electric wise, I really liked the custom shop la cabronita tele I played in the store a while back. I wish I had bought that thing, but as expected, it was gone very quickly.

1980 Les Paul Custom Silverburst. I just loved the hell out of the thing. Played like a dream. Still my dream guitar. Maybe in 5 years.

My 1989 Fender Strat Plus. Everytime I play it, I am reminded of why I love it so much.

My friend's Danelctro U something or another when I gave it back to him and he started playing it. I am so bad and he is so good at it.

I love Fenders, but the best sounding guitar that I've ever played was a Michael Kelly Patriot Custom that I used at a jam session a couple of months ago.

I hate to admit it, but at least I'm honest.

The answer is the music in which you are playing in my opinion. I mean some guitars are just really cut out for different sounds. My beloved 1980 pre production Charvel strat is great for a lot of different sounds but I grab it if I am playing harder rock and I will quickly grab my Fender Strat for clean tones to classic rock. My Taylor T5 handles the acoustic tones and then some. Basically It would be boring if just one great guitar did it all and sounded "the best". I am glad there is no such thing....IMO

I was a Gibson man my entire life but I must say that my brand new SRV signature strat is the best I played... I just had it set up by a luthier and he said it was the best sounding strat he ever played and he hates strats...lol

The best sounding guitars I've played are the ones I own, my strat and Rhoads. I haven't found any more I'd characterize as better (course I don't even touch anything beyond $3000, I don't want to play a guitar worth more than my car <______<).

Nothing really special, except maybe to me, not vintage or anything spectacular, but the best gear I've ever played is what I have right now -
2009 MIM Strat, Sunburst w/ maple FB,
2009 Jazz bass, Charcoal Frost Metallic, maple FB.
Sweet, both of 'em.

The best guitar I ever played was a Valley Arts Brent Mason Telecaster. It was sweet. I have yet to find a guitar that produced so many great tones and felt so right in my hands. If you ever get a chance, try one out.
