I just bought an awsome 09 Am Standard Strat Sienna Sunburst and loving every second of it. I've read about the positions 2 & 4 being humcancelling. When I play in 1, 3 and 5 I don't hear any hum at all. No hum in any position! Any help?

Turn your amp up a little. If you have a small, practice amp, turn it up all the way. You will hear a little hum. Got any distortion pedals? Turn those on. You'll probably hear a difference in the 1, 3, and 5 position compared to the 2 and 4 position now.

Thanks senderkik. I have a Peaver Vyper 30 watt and I've only turned it up 1/3. And a little practice Marshall 10 watt. I'll try that and maybe the distortion pedal. If it dose occur, any way to solve the problem?

Hum really isn't a big deal honestly. To produce the cleanest notes, play on positions 2 & 4. But the neck and the bridge positions are also very important for iconic lead tones. If you were playing with a band or some other accompaniment then you most likely won't hear the hum as you are playing. After that it's just a matter of tweaking the volume as you play, adjusting for dynamics. It's also a good habit to roll off the volume between songs if you don't already.

Many time you will notice more hum if there are other electrical items plugged in at the same location you have your amp. Especially a t.v. or radio. I'm pretty lucky in my practice room that as long as I dont turn the t.v. on I get almost no hum.

Hum doesn't bother me one bit. It's those humming single coils that allow me to do all of feedback tricks with my amp. The "noisy" pups are the best for those effects 8)

You mean you have a 1000 dollar guitar and you play it thru a 200 dollar solid state amp?Get a better amp if you want better tone.

The Vypyr 30 is a pretty decent amp. I know it's nice and easy to rag on SS amps, particularly if all you've experienced are the abominally crappy practice amps many of us got in starter pack (ask me about my Silvertone, sometime!), but the Vypyr 30 is not a bad amp, by any stretch. SS amps have improved tremendously in recent years. My brother has a little Marshall SS practice amp, and his Telecaster sings through it.

Play it thru a Fender tube amp and you will see what singing really sounds like.Totally different realm IMHO, but I know there are some descent solid state amps out there.

Shielding is better than it used to be.

Regarding 60 cycle hum, check out Martian's thread :
