hey ive been looking for a wah pedal they seem so cool to me but theres so many i am preferibly looking for a dunlop crybaby but which one should i get? i mean theres a lot too choose from from classic to artist models can anyone give me suggestions and i would appreicate a comparsion between a few thanks so much

Hi Phil,

Have you concidered a Vox? They have a chrome top like in the days of Hendrix and they have a much throatier sound than a Crybaby GCB-95 and the GCB-95F. Current production models are made in China but they are not bad. If you want a USA made model, you can buy one used on eBay for $60.00-$80.00 depending on age and condition. If you really want an awesome boutique pedal look into an Area51.

SRV used a Vox along with a Tube Screamer for the core of his sound and I think that's about the best recommendation we can get... I mean how many blues awards did he rack up before that tragedy took his life?

I have the current Vox V847A (Chinese made reissue) which retails for $89.00 just about everywhere. I do have a Dunlop GCB-95F (Crybaby Classic) which Yngwei Malmsteen prefers in his rig and that retails for $99.00. Of the two, I prefer the Vox. It is warmer and throatier. It is also moddable. The Crybaby Classics are made by robots and there is very little you can do to modify unless you know how to solder under a microscope. I installed an output buffer in my Vox to make it Fuzz friendly.

FYI Fuzz pedals like the Dallas Arbitor and clones generally don't quack so well when placed after a standard wah wah pedal. To fix this, the savvy install an output buffer. Distoirtion pedals and metal distortion are not affected in the same way and can be placed before or after the wah wah pedal. The Dunlop Slash Wah has a built in distortion stage which can be selected to engage before or after the the wah stage. If you like the sound it's not a bad deal for $169.00 retail but I've heard several complaints that it's not really that remarkable when you can mate your desired wah wah and distortion and get exactly the sound you want for the same price.

If you are handy with a wire clipper and solder check out the Wah Wah pedal kit at

http://www.buildyourownclone.com

Their design employs internal trimpots for bass, mid, treble and Q to voice your pedal exactly as you like as well as having the flexibility to change your settings easily at any time.
