Hello Everyone,

First time poster here. This is my first guitar I bought from my friend on or about 1999.

After doing some research on it, turns out I cant verify Color or a 50th anniversary Mexican Fender or even why it has those vintage tuners! Weird!

I have grown to absolutely love it...I just hope its authentic!

Can anyone lend me a hand verifying this is a real strat!

Many Thanks,

Mark
(Huge Pink Floyd Fan i.e. DG-20's :-)

Oh btw I installed those. I bought the guitar with regular single coils. Everything else is "original"

Here are the pictures:

[quote="GilmoursGuitars"]Hello Everyone,

Welcome :!: Gilmours Guitars, eh? Pink Floyd, eh? Man, you missed all the fun around here these past 18 months waiting for the Gilmour Project to be finished. Quite a few of us own either the NOS or the Relic. Great instrument.

Used to have a DG-20 in a 97' American Standard. Big question around here is always "where did YOU put the battery :?: :?

On the your guitar, the #suggests MIM '96; the hardware and bridge do not suggest MIM, but more what might be found on an Asian outsource. There may be more info coming from elsewhere, possible requesting more info. I'll defer to the experts.

However, if the guitar is a player in your hands, what matter the source?

Hang out.

Doc

The NOS Project! Oh Man! Could you post a link to the thread!! I cant wait to read it!

I do love the guitar...Just curious :-)

I just ordered a Gilmour custom Pick guard based on his Black Strat from here: http://www.stratcat.biz/black_strat_parts.shtml

The guy is really nice...with tons of knowledge based on Phil Taylor's specs.

Let me know if you think its a good purchase!

I also just made my own website that is focusing on how to get Gilmour's tones from Garageband. Its no where near done; but let me know what you think :-) http://www.gilmoursguitars.com

Hi Doc: I have a solution to that - all of a sudden!!

Hi GilmoursGuitars, welcome to the Forum. Lotta fun to be had round here for Gilmour fans.

As the Good Doctor says, those tuners give the thing a Far Eastern feel to me - I think the shape on the back of the casing is known as diamondback or some such. I've seen that shape on Chinese Squiers - but not with those buttons, which look higher quality than what I've seen before. I wouldn't be surprised if these are Eastern parts used legitimately on a Mexican Fender, but I couldn't say for sure. I could dig up more info on the tuners if required.

That sticker on the back of the headstock looks familiar. That is suggesting 1997 to me...

Running the serial number through Guitar Dater Project indeed returns a result of Ensenda Plant (Mexico), 1996 - 97. The black plastic trussrod entry supports that - I'm pretty sure that wasn't found on Strats coming from China at the time (though I don't know about Korea). I think that all checks out - a MIM Strat.

Couldn't be certain, but I suspect the color is Olympic White. Here:

http://www.fender.com/support/colorchar ... te&color=6

Either that or Vintage White. Whichever, it goes very nicely indeed with those EMG pickup covers, which I presume must be their Ivory model? That is a nice look - congrats!

Cheers - C

We have some other ideas, but it may require giving up a trem spring or two.

To my memory, there were two threads running on this for the longest.

Oh, another thought, GilmoursGuitars: you may like the look exactly the way you have it, and that's fine.

But if you wanted some knobs and tips that just about exactly match those EMG Ivory pickup covers I happen to know that WD Music do a set which they call "Antique White" that is the closest out there to the job:

Now how did I know that...?

I didn't read the other guy's replies yet. But I think it's a Mexican Squier. I've seen a few of these that people try to pass off as just mim strats.

it's supposed to have a small logo at the end of the headstock that says squier series. But people seem to be able to take those off.

But look for pics of mexican squiers about this time and you can see the same tuners, same fender font all in black, and same bridge. I'll see if I can find some pics and post them.

Interesting! Sure looks the same.

Wonder were the logos swapped or did they just produced the same guitar and market it under two different marques. Also..MN5 would be'95, and the seller calls it '96.

Litenin: wasn't there also a link to something called either "The Sound From Heaven, or "The Tone From Heaven"?
