And yours has no red sticker in the middle pickup cavity

This is cool stuff!
The sticker actualy was there but it came loose as it's placed on top of the finish, but i stored it and stached away with the original 3 way switch.
I digged it up and made a pic of it, so here it is.

Yeehaa! Magnificent - that absolutely made my day! :D :D :D

Dunno if you've seen: folks sell the most amazing little things from vintage guitars on Ebay - like bits of grungy old tape that were used to bind the pickup wires for example. And they ask hundreds of dollars for such items - and sometimes people pay those prices!!!

So guard that red sticker with your life: it could be worth a king's ransom in decades to come...

Cheers - C

On the other hand, I notice differences that he will no doubt set great store by. Yours carries builders' names on both neck and neck pocket where his doesn't.

Actualy his guitar does too, but the guy('s) who stamped it didn't use enough ink i guess (as with the date stamped on the butt of the neck)
Here's a link to more detailed pics of his (fxdfxd's) guitar.
There's also to be seen there was another pickuard placed once (extra holes) Also the volume pot was replaced.
I'm guessing the pickup's arn't original too on his guitar because they're beveled.
I actualy believe his body is made from poplar and not from alder (look at the streaks running along the grain)
Now i'm no wood expert but i had a 1983 USA standard strat which i knew to have a poplar body and showed the same unmistakable streaks.
Hence Fender did not always did what they're supposed to.

You know what this sticker is for? Did they use it in the US assembled models?

I believe it's intended to sign off on during the different quality control stages.
I don't think they were very serious about using this sticker as most of the time you'll only find two people signing on on there.
You'll find these on Mexican necks too.
I don't believe they're to be found on Japanese necks.

These days i find they're using stickers with less numbers on them (3 to be precise instead of 7)
Could this mean they lowered quality control? :-)
You can poke around on Ebay at the stratosphere seller, they have lot's of pictures of necks from different years to compare to one and other.

I had my 2005 Am Series apart recently. Here's the neck heel sticker. No signatures at all, and look how much time elapsed between carving the neck (presumably the February date) and the date it was completed:

I just restrung my CIJ Strat a couple of days ago, so I'm not going to pull the neck off right now to see if there's a sticker in there. Come to think of it, I've never had the neck off my Korean Tele, so I have no idea what a heel and pocket from that plant look like either.

Cheers - C

There you go, according to Ceri's post they sometimes didn't even bother at all.
