I installed a 500K pot and the knob is sky high. Would it be cool to drop a washer on the pot to bring the height down?

Thanks

Yeah if you have a spare retaining nut to fit the pot. Simply put the nut on so's that the shaft height from the top of that nut is the same as your regular pots. Put the pot in the pickguard and put the regular nut on it. So the pickguard is sandwich'd between the 2 nuts.

Hi Silverslack: as has been said, it is perfectly fine to put extra nuts and washers on your pots.

However, I doubt you need to. When I buy pots they usually come with two nuts and two washers, for above and below the pickguard. You can decide where to set them on the pot's brass screw shaft. Near the bottom, so it will stick way out the front of the 'guard. Or (as in the second picture) near the top, so the pot and knob will sit lower:

Does that make sense?

Cheers - C

PS Apologies for the focus in the first pic. But you can see what's going on...

I've got washers behind a few of mine to drop the height. No issues 20 years into it.

They come either, long, or short shaft. For Strat's, you need the short. Guitars, like Les Paul's, or any other archtop, will require a long shaft. Strats, S.G.'s, etc, requires short shaft.

And might I recommend CTS pots.
