Today I had chance to play my Explorer through the scxd and I had no problems with the ringing. Maybe its because the its a "bassier" sounding guitar than my strat. But that doesn't seem to make all that much sense. So guess its not amp after all.

I'm planning to get my strat professionally set up one of these days. Maybe I have the pickups raised up too high or something. Hopefully a guitar tech could help.

Thanks for everybody's help.-Mike

He he. Stratitus is when you set the pickup height too close to the strings and you get nasty overtones. Also, I've seen guitarists put rubber bands around and sometimes surgical tubing inside their tremolo springs because of overtones from them.

I am using 5 springs for my trem. I'll try using a rubber band to keep them from vibrating. Maybe thats the problem. -Thanks

Hi there Pasloade, guess you've tried the Strat on other amps. Did you try lowering the pickups ? Damping the trem springs is a good idea too, especially if you're using high output pickups. The ringing symptom is usually a microphonic tube, but you've tried damping their vibration or swapping them out, right? Everything is snug on the chassis and cab, right? The sympathetic vibrations, mentioned earlier, can be of a mechanical origin that tickle a component into ocillation. Capacitors can also go microphonic. If the amp is still under warranty, and the guitar has been proved to be straight(grounds, wiring, switches, pots, pickups, etc.), I would send it in for repair or replacement. Art
