Tom hit it right there. My local place rarely has the stuff I need and when they do they charge more for it. I'd like to support them but I'm no fool, I'll buy the same part cheaper anywhere if I can. And most of the time it's GC.

Between Craigslist, eBay, online shopping and our local GC for parts and new guitars that does not leave a bright future for the local mom and pop guitar retail. Only hope I see left is depending on their level of expertise in repairs.

Most are surviviing on lessons these days

I shop and buy at my "local" GC in Brea, CA. (I miss you Jon!! Please come back!). I would prefer to not shop there and instead support the mom and pop music shop but.. twelve month no interest/no payment financing offered by GC works for me. I like interest free loans. I do use the mom and pop shop for repairs and lessons.
