I'm looking at the fender brand LSR roller nut, and i'd like to know if the neck needs any cutting to fit that nut. I see that there are screws involved, so i'm trying to make sure that the nut is all that good to have, as it looks to me that i could end up with an altered neck with a nut istalled that i might not like after all was said and done. Also, i saw a bridge? bridge saddle? cover on the eric clapton signature model strat. i wonder if that cover could be purchased by itself to install on an American standard strat. Finally, is there some kind of roller for the wammy mechanism, or the bridge? While i'm at it, does anyone know for sure what gauge of strings the 97' American strats come stocked with? 9's, 10's? I read in the guitars manual, where i'll need to keep my strings at least near the same gauge as it came with in order to be compatible with the trem springs i have. Thanks!

I have never installed one, but I do have one... can't honestly say that I notice a difference from a Standard nut though. Anyway, I found this a while back. Good luck

Thats about the size of it. You'll end up with a neck thats good for oversized nuts, should you not like the LSR. Their not to everyones tastes.

You cant fit a ashtray cover to the 2point trem. It doesnt fit, it does nothing for the guitar anyway except hamper playability. I dont know what you mean about a "Whammy roller mechanism", sorry.
Modern design strats come with 9's fitted. Vintage reissues have 10's. Any gauge up to a 12 is compatable with your guitar. Any more than 12's and the nut will need to be altered.

Why do you want the bridge cover?

Thanks for the input guys! I would use it as a palm rest, as it's not in the way like a tele's ashtray cover, and i like thwe look of it. My question still remains though, does anyone know if the part is available for purchase? Thanks!

I kind of guessed what you would use it for but I still don't know why you want it.

The reason I'm asking a very specific question in an attempt to learn why you want to use it as a palm rest. I'm also wondering if there is reason you want to do this, aside from aesthetics, that you're not mentioning.

Most folks don't use bridge covers because they:
- Raise the picking hand up above the strings enough that some folks find it uncomfortable and/or awkward.
- The make muting the strings with the palm of your picking hand difficult.

I'm sorry I cannot point you towards a source for this item but I figure I can at least offer some insight on their usage, or lack thereof.

Ah, ok, thanks for the info on the part Nikininja, i'm still chuckling over your bit about who the bull would choose to tear up first, LOL!

Thanks for your input Matt, i like to park my hand on the bridge of my schecter axe, which has a gold plated bridge, and the plating is wearing off. Now, if memory serves, i believe i read somewhere, that the string saddles on my American standard strat are stainless steel, so my hand may not cause any issues there. i only put my paw there when i pick single notes. I think it's because i am still getting used to plank spankin' after years of playing dreadnaught acoustic guitars exclusively.

I was considering one myself right up until a buddy of mine referred to it as a "sustain killer". I am not an expert on them, but his experience with them talked me out of it.
