forgot to give an update.
i set the p/us to about 4/64 5/64 respectively between bass and treble
tone was very good,
however i wanted to try something else, i lowered them pretty close to being flush with the pickguard.
and, wow, what tone.
i think by lowering the pus, a little after the static thing started happening.
