Looks like Brad deleted that post from the fella trying to sell a fake strat here. I really enjoyed not telling him what was wrong with it. It was a half decent copy Image apart from

Image.

What kind of dummy tries to flog a fake in a crowd of people that play and look at the real thing all day.

No I'm still not saying how I know. I've suspected that some fakers use this site to check whether their gear will pass, for atleast a year now.

Even if it was the real thing, the price was about the price for a new one.Where do these people come from?I just got an email from an ebay seller selling a 92 SRV strat with a rosewood fretboard.Tried to tell me the first ones were made in the custom shop and it was really rare. Said he was asking 4900 for it and was dropping his price down to 4800.I said good luck with that.I have seen them going for between 2500 to 3000 tops in mint condition.

I am not an expert at these things. I saw maybe 2-3 things on that guitar that made me question it. But not enough to say for sure it was a fake. Something about the headstock truss area and the body seemed wrong to me.

However, the whole owed for two weeks and want a Rickenbacker story seemed odd enough. Also, I did not remember tweed cases being an available upgrade from Fender, mine came with a black case, and I was given no choice of cases. Then he is asking $1200, for a AM STD, which you can buy all day new at GC for under $1,000.

The price and story alone should make most people walk before ever seeing the guitar.

Although I still don't see it....couldn't whatever is you see wrong be attributed to poor pics?
You know, everybody seems to see it but me. So either we got a situation like one of those fractal 3-D pics where everybody sees the thing in it but me, or the emperor is not wearing clothes.

And for the record, I didn't delete that thread. I've barely learned how to navigate this site, and certainly don't have the knowledge to delete a thread.

No one is suggesting you did mate. Thats a power only one man has, and it aint me.

Ok I'll narrow it down to one picture. Look at the headstock and compare it to a american standard or american deluxe.

I think the poor picture quality and funky camera angle make comparisons difficult.
They look the same to me, although the color of the fake one is a bit darker (which may or may not be due to the poor pic quality).
I really hesitate to write more as I don't want to accidentally alert these bozos as to their errors.
But seriously, someone just email me the answer!

I think the photography was intentionally shoddy, to hide a "multitude of sins", so to speak.

I came close to letting him know, but found it more suitable to watch him squirm. I'm just sorry for him if he really thought it was a real Fender Stratocaster.

Like you said, a good copy except for the Headstock/truss rod hole.
