Yes, Z8 would indicate an AM 2008 model. However, Fender has been making American guitars as long as they have been in business as far as I know. They were not new for 08. I do think there was a time that they called them American Series and something else, so maybe that is what you are refering too?????

Z8 could be either 07 or 08 American Standard.

Simple answer... Does it have the powered steel saddles, or the inferior stamped steel?

yes if they have left over necks they use them...so you can end up with a Z7 on a 08, Z8 on a 09....but not a Z8 on a 07...and so on

i could be wrong here.....there is many things i dont know.....but it seems to me....if it made in Dec. of 07....then the stamp inside the neck would show 07....so with the stamp showing 07...and the S# showing Z7...i and about any other person checking it years down the road would say its a 2007.

the only way to really tell is to pop the neck and check the neck & body date stamps.

1986 to 2000 then in 2001 to present.

Correct, the NEW American Standard debuted officially in 2008 (with a handful of them----the first batch of them----being unofficially manufactured in Dec. 2007).

You can learn more about this new version of the American Standard series here: http://www.fender.com/features/makehistory/

Indeed it would.

Thats a good commercial but tell you little!
The American Standard you buy now has been around since 2001 but in 08 the changed the neck tint, the case that comes with it and the bridge with the different steel saddles so you have elongated slots. Blocks the same but they chamfered it. Just update to 2001 version which was an update to 1986.
