Does anyone know how I would go about cleaning the edges of a 60s road worn strat pickguard. I think the amount of aging on it looks pretty terrible and was wondering how I could take that ugly orangish brownish tint off.

Thanks

Unless the "orangish brownish tint" is actually a layer of something on top of the pick guard, then it is part of the pick guard itself (i.e., its color). If the color of the pick guard is part of the pick guard, then you can't clean it off.

This leaves you with two options: 1) paint it a desired color; or 2) replace it with a pick guard of the desired color.

You could try to use some slightly abrasive polish, like a scratch and swirl remover.

If that doesn't work, do as Plabius suggested.

I think it would be easier to replace the pickguard.

I don't know one way or the other but premising that it is some chemical they dumped ON it rather than IN it, tooth paste or car wax would work. However, as either have a mild abrasive in it, it MAY reduce or remove any gloss (if there is any) off the pickguard.
