Hi all,

I am looking to buy a second hand Stratocaster to ease the load a bit on my other Strat (my favourite guitar) and so have been looking on the net to see what is available and have come across this on ebay which I quite like the looks of.

It is a USA Floyd Rose Classic HH in Vintage White and the link to the auction is:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

I would be very grateful if some of you would take the time to look over the ad for me and give me your views on the guitar and let me know what you think in general?

Were these a popular model?

Do you think that all appears straight and genuine?

Thanks as always for any help you can give me.

Russ :)

The black truss access surround says no *cough cough*.

Looks like a mexican neck atleast.

Take my advice. You've found your strat, so you think (that view is always apt to change). Just play it. Anything else is sinking bad money after good until you find another 'the one'. I've been down that road and regret it. I Still play 'the one' and think, "when its gone its gone. I'll have to pay to get it sorted out."

I only have knowlendge of the 92 model, but it had the black truss rod cover on it. It also had a floyd rose logo at the end where the Original Contoured Body logo usually is.

But the 92 had 2 single coils and 1 dimarzio HB. It also only had 2 screws holding the HB, instead of 3 like this model.

The SN# on the case candy matches the # on the neck. I've seen alot a decal copies some with SN# if it was part of the logo. none of just SN's. If this was fake he would have to find phoney case candy too. The strat I had with a floyd rose was a hss with a black headstock and I think it was mij or cij. I only kept it a few months and that was 16 yrs ago

It looks genuine to me. I would take it if I were you.

Before placing a bid, you should call Fender directly and give them the serial number. They will tell you exactly what kind of guitar that is. I'm not sure if Fender has a different serial number scheme for American made for import or export. I've always thought they use the same serial number scheme for all American made instruments regardless if they were for import or export.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I think what I'll do is, give Fender a call in the morning as bluesguitar65 suggested and see if they can give me any furthur info on the guitar, and then, if all still seems to be looking good, I'll contact the seller with some questions and see what sort of answers he gives.

I really like the looks of the guitar, but must check that it is all genuine before I look at parting with any money.

Thanks for all the help guys,

Russ

Keep us posted on the info Fender gave you about that strat. I'm actually quite curious about the letter F before the letter N in that serial number.

That decal really bothers me somehow.

Personally I'd wait for something else to come along, but if you do like the guitar as your secondary then that's all the matters.

You can never go wrong with Vintage White 8)

I have to say I would not be confident it is what he represents. That being said it still could be a great guitar.

I have a genuine 92' American Floyd Rose Classic HSS. The Bridge on mine says "Original Floyd Rose" not simply "Floyd Rose" as depicted.

The FN serial is F=For Export, N= 1990's, and the first digit of 2 would make that a 1992 neck. Mine is also an FN2XXXX and as stated earlier has an additional logo of:

"Classic
Floyd
Rose
Series"

located on the round part of the headstock.

Some pics here:

Holy moly. No doubt. That thing is awesome ... with the real non-licensed FR, too.

The black surround where the truss adjustment is sure a dead giveaway- and the serial number, yeah it suggests 1992- but did they make the HH configuration in 1992? NO.

Look at the pick-ups. A '92 should have DiMarzio PAF pro in the bridge- this guitar has niether.

I suspect the pickguard assembly have been changed out to an HH, and the headstock should have a logo that reads "floyd rose classic series" or something to that effect. The serial on the back of the headstock, and the lack of the floyd decal, suggests that it may be later than 92- plus given the fact the pickguard looks very.. white.

I remember the HH was avail in the latter years of its life- circa 96 or '97 till discontinued. I

Not to cast doubt, this is definately an Am Floyd classic- I dont think it's a 92- perhaps 97 or later with a wierd decal, or had the pickguard replaced. but where is that floyd classic series decal... :?
