I found a strat with a Metal stamp on the back of the body. It was round and said "guinuine Fender body" on it. Has anyone ever seen this befor? Do you know around what years they had this if this is a legit thing Fender did? I cant find one on the internet. It is below the neck plate.

I have never seen one of those metal stamps that you mention on the body. Doesn't mean that it isn't genuine, just never seen one, thats all.

Hi matthewellisondrums: ditto to what paisley strat says.

Whether it is genuine or not, many people here would be very interested to to see pictures of that stamp so's we can discuss it further. Lot of well informed people here so we might come up with an answer for you - but we need to see what we're talking about, if you care to post a photo?

Cheers - C

Did this metal stamp have four big holes in it with screws running thru them? Maybe three big holes plus one little bitty hole. Those are genuine too. :)

None of my reference books mention a "genuine Fender body" plate.

Maybe once upon a time Fender provided replacement bodies and this was their method of proving it's authenticity. . . ?

I think it's more likely that someone had a friend fabricate it for their own personal instrument.

I've got one of those. Original Fender body and one one the back of the headstock that says original Fender neck. Bought my strat used in 1990 and was told it was a 57 reissue. All natural finish.
