Ok all, I've been away from the forum for awhile. What happened to the guitar? I haven't seen anything from Ceri, at least not any pics.... What's the good word???

Hi DetroitBlues - and everyone else. As has been mentioned I have the incovenience of a living to earn. That has me away from home for an extended period - and guitar projects don't fit in my baggage, I'm afraid.

However, I get home early next week, though just for a few days. Off on a plane again the following weekend, so we have to see if we can tie this thing up in that little window of opportunity. There's more to do than you might imagine...

Tune in later.

Cheers - C

Awesome, I know the feeling. I've got my own projects at home that's keeping me from getting out to jam with fellow starving artists! I'll be looking forward to the new updates, thanks Ceri!

Sorry man. I'm on point here with respect to age. Recent thread brought that out. That's a way the hell out of the way spot Xhefri found himself on. Clean knocked me out of my seat when I read it. Never thought anyone one my write-to list of acquaintances would have found themselves there. Closest I've come is our colleague on Sumatra re:Krakatau, and my frequent communications with the volcanologist/oceanographer from the University of Rhode Island, Haraldur Siggurdsen, who, in 1979, published the definitive papers on the destruction of Pompeii which he was good enough to send me copies of. I've an understanding with my wife that, when we go to Italy, I get walkaround time of at least 3 days in that area, Sicily, the Lipari Islands (Stromboli and Vulcano), Santorini Island and Akrotiri in Greece, and Minos, on Crete. Don't get me started on Iceland. 8)

Good grief, Doc; I had no idea of this pyroclastic tendancy in you. You're full of surprises.

So happens I'm in Sicily in a couple of weeks, staying a (pumice) stone's throw from Etna. I'll pop up on top and let you know how she's cooking. Forum T-shirt photo in a volcano crater, perhaps? More Hot Rocks and Fazed Cookies...

Cheers - C

Hell hath no fury like a volcano at full tilt boogie. When I was on Martinique a while back I threw down the gauntlet and made it clear that I was going to St.Pierre and Mont Pelee even if the ship sailed without me. I've several books on that event in my library but nothing speaks for having been there. Same said for Hawaii. Same with Irazu in Costa Rica. Sometimes you only get one shot at the brass ring. I was real pyroclastic flow in my yute, but those tales remained untold, and in my memory alone. Been to St.Helens four times. Such destruction boggles the mind. I can't imagine how it must have been in the first thirty seconds of that igneous holocaust, David Johnston screaming his last words into the radio to Portland as the clouds bore down on him, and Harry Truman, now entombed 900 below, ultimately betrayed by his beloved mountain, encompassing his doom.

Enjoy Etna. My 84 yo father-in-law was up there a couple of years ago. Why not yourself.

Volcanoes?? Without them, human kind would not exist.

Doc

Well who knew? How fascinating!

Must say, one of the most fun things to me about this whole Forum business is gradually discovering all the previously unrevealed bits of people's backgrounds and interests. Lots of surprises, and always good!

Well put. I'd say 30,000 dead in less than an minute at St.Pierre in May of 1902 is one 'hell'uva burnout. :? You know....there's was new construction on the remains of old foundations in that city when I visited, and the carbon scoring nearly 90 years old at that time, was still evident on many of those walls. Mind boggling.

Absolutly Doc, mother nature in all her supreme shock and awe.

Who knows. After coming down from Etna (Ceri might spell it Aetna) he might choose to christen his effort The Pyroclaster  in consideration of the condition in which it originally came from niki.

Or maybe I should finish it and then go chuck it in a lava flow as the ULTIMATE Hendrix sacrifice. Ashes to ashes.

The Pyroclastic Pyrocaster.

(I might not, though...)

The Pyrocaster, like it, sure Ceri intends going with the "flow" on this or possibly a few knots in front

Well....after all this pahoehoe back and forth, he's sure to come up with something. That's the Hawaiian version of saying 'he's had enough rope'.
