Alain do you keep all these guitars in hiding places then forget about them till something reminds you of them?

I swear I havent seen that one in your collection before.

Doc

The malibu is wonderful. It sounds really warm, almost jazzer hollowbody on the bass strings. The treble end sparkles, really clearly. I'm not really conversant with acoustic guitars, nor do I have much technique at playing them. I couldnt really be specific about the sounds as to playing position. Play it over the soundhole and its really soft, move back towards the bridge and its sound becomes more toppy.
Where ever you play it the thing vibrates. All along the neck, the top, back and sides, just come alive and start dancing when you strike a chord. Theres a quite magical set of over/undertones happening all the time. If it was a strat, I'd sell everything else. There would simply be no use for other guitars.

The thing plays wonderfully. Right out the box it was great. The fedex man delivered it, I tore the packaging off. Left the thing a couple of minutes to get to room temperature. Tuned and played it. The neck is kind of a flat C shape with a smooth taper up to the 12th fret, very comfortable. The fretwork is some of the best I've seen ever. Perfectly round fret tops and not a sharp edge in sight. For someone like me who's had so little experience of acoustic guitars and wants to move onto one from electric. I can think of no better, but as I said I'm inexperienced with them. I did have a little bit of trouble sussing out the preamp and getting it balanced. Thats all sorted now though.
One tiny niggle. Its a fraction too heavy at the headstock end. If you use a nylon strap the headstock end can try to tip to a 90 degree angle to your body. Not the way I naturally hold a guitar. It's unnoticeable when playing it, and disappears when you use a decent width strap of natural material.

Now that's nice! When people talk about "super-Strats", that's the original real thing.

Ever since I got my top glued on successfully I've been kicking myself for not being brave enough to use a much more expensive piece of wood - like that one. Oh well, next time...

Thanks for posting that pic.

And to everyone else: your neck ideas are all carefully noted.

I wonder if there's already a plan or not...? We'll see.

Anyway. I'm having a day off from my spraygun - and trying to build a little Valentine's Day pressie for the missus instead. Just so's you don't imagine I have my feet up this Sunday afternoon.

Cheers - C

If you search recents posts by alain you're likely to find the full photo of this guitar which has a matching headstock finish. It's absolutely gorgeous.

And indeed the Plymouth has noticeably more in the way of herbs and spices - "botanicals".

In turn, Gordons is considered one of the more botanical of the mainstream gins compared to Tanqueray or Bombay Saphire

you should try a Dutch Genever Gin.

Give it a try - highly recommended.

Thanks Ceri. I'll try the Dutch Genever Gin if I can find it here. As for the Botanicals, there's a place in Bend, Oregon where they make a local gin from the "Oregon Grape" or junipers and botanicals. A great place.

Does that lend something to the laquer finish, then.

Great to see the progress...I too was out of the loop due to not getting notifications and working on guitars in my shop over the weekend. Man the color on this surprised me C. I kept looking at the red and wondering where you were going with this....very nice!!!

And the SAs will sound great. You will love them.... Did you decide on any of the little EMG custom pots with EXG or SPC?? I have them in a red Strat I built....really nice variety of tone!

By the way, I refinished this one in a Lipstick Red equivalent. no refin job like you have done! You are a master for sure!

Guy's I'd love to tell you about Ceri's recent act of kindness. Unfortunately this is not the place to go into details.

Let's just say the man is on a par with the better class of 1st millenium saints.

The good Samaritan did not pass by on the other side of the road.
