Absolutely. Unless you'd handled the body I destroyed you wouldn't really know how badly damaged it was. I mean bits of it were coming off in my hands. Ceri has done a great work of a soothing nature to guitarists everywhere. How many of us are now thinking, "no matter how bad it gets it can be fixed".

My monthly stewmac spam came through earlier. Very uninspiring by comparison.

Without a doubt, you are making a guitar the fender custom shop would envy. Great job, can't wait to see the finished product.

Erm, I am very reluctant to even post these photos today because they are SO MUCH NOT what this guitar looks like right now. What the f___?

Please don't bother giving me more advice on photography: I am clearly incapable of benefiting from it. Daylight's gone now over here, but I shall try some more fannying around with metering and white paper and the rest of it tomorrow and see if I can take a shot that looks anything at all like the lacquer I've sprayed. Perhaps my lovely assistant could help me.

Honestly, unlike these photos the guitar is really looking quite nice at the moment. You just have to take my word for it.

Excuses made, here it is:
Image

This pic is no better:

This is a slightly better photograph - but doesn't actually let you see my nice lacquer:
Image

Anyhow. I haven't taken the binding mask off yet because I've had no time to work on it today (expensive plumbing miseries) and also I'm not sure if I want to make the edges a touch darker still.

I was going to ask your thoughts on that - but you can't tell anything from my feeble photos to make a judgement:

Oh well. Tomorrow is another day.

Drinks recipes, anyone?

From looking at those photo's and having plenty of experience at bad photo's, I'd say it doesnt need to be darker.
Just place the pickups in their cavities to get an Idea of what it will look like finished. Cream or white pickups will give it a overall lighter appearance. If anything I'd think the center needs to be a touch lighter, not the outer darker.

Ninj, if you could see it for real you would be convinced it would be such a good companion for your Malibu - the color of which you seem to have had no trouble capturing (Mutley type cursing sounds: *^&%$£%).

Just bear it in mind. It's yours anytime you want. But see it finished first...

Anything good on telly tonight...?

Cheers - C

Ceri, top notch. How would you rate Plymouth Gin versus Tanqueray? I'm a Tank guy myself, but wouldn't mind broadening my palette. Thanks for the update, can't wait to see the next one.

HA! Well now we have this thread back on track - thank you! :D

I spend half my life not 20 miles from the Plymouth Gin factory, and I'm prepared to admit I know the inside of that establishment moderately well (spot my Fender Forum T-shirt):
Image

When you tour the Plymouth factory they give you a tasting where they put their gin alongside a glass of Gordons and invite you to observe the difference. And indeed the Plymouth has noticeably more in the way of herbs and spices - "botanicals".

In turn, Gordons is considered one of the more botanical of the mainstream gins compared to Tanqueray or Bombay Saphire (which I used to drink a lot), so that gives you a slight idea of what Plymouth is like. Put Gordons alongside Tanqueray and then imagine going a little further in the same direction.

However. Plymouth Gin used to be a genuinely and seriously botanical gin, but over the decades has been toned down a lot to appeal to the international market - which is a big shame, I think.

I couldn't be sure, but I'm guessing if you want to know what Plymouth might have been like in the good ol' days you should try a Dutch Genever Gin. Often it comes in attractive stoneware bottles; Bols is a well-known brand to look out for, though there's more characterful ones to find too. Genever is seriously flavorsome gin; very different from stuff to which you'd normally add tonic.

Give it a try - highly recommended.

Oh, and Plymouth do a very nice Sloe Gin, if you're in a Joe Bonamassa kind of a mood...

My thoughts. :D

Cheers - C

PS For Americans: that Plymouth Gin factory is about 100 yards from the exact spot the Mayflower set sail from. So that's nice, isn't it?

100 yards from the Mayflower! Wow, that's some old history there! We Americans perfer a much darker drink. My good friend Jack Daniels and his partner Jim Beam work for me.... On the rocks....

I suddenly feel like listening to Dylan.

Ceri I'm never taking that body back, ever. Infact after your recent act of tolerance and understanding I'm thinking about buying you some tronics for it. Any idea how passive midcut boxes would sit on that wiring?

Just admit you painted it red to tempt me eh?

I think when this guitar is done,Ceri needs to personally present it to the Queen!!! A picture of that in a full tux, substituting his forum T-shirt for the tux shirt would win the contest for sure!!!!
