ahh ceri, nicely done.

i have nothing even remotely as nice as that art shop here. In fact there are only 2 places with any decent stock. You are really upping the ante on these threads, it will mean some elbow grease to hang with the master once i get rolling on my upcoming projects.

i really like how the staging of your 'place settings' has evolved since it's genesis with the mystery coffee cup. as we have moved into new territory in your work, we have moved from a backyard garden atmosphere and more into the realm of fine dining. i fully expect to be seeing shots of a sommelier lurking in the background of your next project.

Twelvebar, that made me fall about laughing. :D

I kinda felt we'd done the subject of disgusting low-fat coffee creamer to death. Time to give something new to talk about.

Upping the ante? OK, just for that maybe I'll break out the tux for the "finished" shots - if we ever get there.

Oh, and to Orville - nuts, I'd forgotten the previous martini discussions. You're right, repetitive indeed! (So much for my memory.) Apologies: must try harder...

:D - C

PS What I like about that shop is wandering along those rows of jars full of pigments and thinking; "ooo - I want a guitar that color!"

I was going thru withdrawals... glad you're back. I am curious to see a close up of the label that you put in the tremelo cavity....

If you wear a tux at the final unveiling you might as well break out the fine linen and silver as well... awesome work Ceri

From what I understand these international dangermen of mystery are much like overly successful serial killers in that they have to leave clues. Its just another affirmation of their superiority over mere mortals.

I heard a rumour he even mows the lawn in a tux.

No problem. I didn't know you liked them too.

As for Kina Lillet, I thought Kina was a brand that had long disappeared, but the info I find on the web is lacking. It doesn't matter, so long as Lillet is still available (it's even in my town!). Although, recently, when my Lillet supply was exhausted, I used a splash of bourbon instead. Is that called a dirty martini?

Just Bloody Brilliant!

Mixing your own pigment when nothing else will do. I'm in awe, more and more with every post.

Beautiful shop by the way. The only place we have around here even close to that is a chocolate shop from 1885. Still original. Oh and a Tobacconist from 1892. Smells fantastic.

Those little pockets of history always have the best stuff, I guess that's why they last.

Keep up the great work.

From what I understand Lillet originally had quinine in it - hence Kina in the name. But in time they dropped the quinine and so eventually let the Kina bit go too by the 1930s. So when Fleming has Bond order it by that name in the '50s it is dumbly anachronisitic.

But then I think there have been whole books written on the anachronisms in Bond - though I certainly can't be bothered to read up on it.

Frankly, after trying it I just didn't see the point of mixing gin and vodka in a martini. But now you've made me curious about this "dirty martini". Ooo look, a bottle of bourbon on my shelf. Is it too early in the day? I guess it is...

Later - C

On the other side of the pond a dirty martini is one that has a dash of olive juice in it, not bourbon... :)

Perhaps a nice, dry martini with olives could make an appearance in the next demonstration?

Hahaha - well, let's see!

Though ya gotta admit, as pleasures go viewing pictures of other people's drinks is a particularly vicarious one!!

This is getting quite odd - but hey, anything for a weird life! :D

Cheers - C

Right, the word I was looking for was "smoky." It's a smoky martini that's got a splash of whiskey.

Another day another spray...

Bit of sanding first - I felt I'd put on a bit too much red topcoat in the middle. This is my glamorous sanding suite (the kitchen counter):
Image

The reason we had to let the previous coats on the front dry before moving on to a darker tint was to be able to do this next bit. Without a pickguard the insides of the pickup cavities will be slightly visible round the sides of the pickups and I think it would be nice if they were darker than the middle of the guitar. And anyway, I just don't like sloppily finished cavities.

Here's some handy stuff - very low tack masking film:
Image

Peel off the backing, stick it on and then cut out the bits we want to spray:
Image

The offcuts are useful for filling in gaps:

Then spray through the mask...:

- and presto:
Image

Then I went on and used the same color to do the edges of my 'burst and on across the back of the guitar. Unfortunately I have now lost daylight on my part of the planet, so I can't do one of my "progress" photos to show you.

Tomorrow.

(See, my understanding is that Fender pay me a dollar for each hit on this thread, so it's in my interest to drag it out. Or did I dream that...?)

Cheers - C
