Ceri,I hope you really consider putting a transparent stain on that guitar,it would be a sin to cover up that beautiful job of bookmatching with a solid stain or colour.Your patience and crartmanship are inspiring.

I fell into this thread very late, and have been trying to catch up. And I appoligize if this has been discussed already, but once finished... a) What happens to the guitar, and b) Who will be demonstrating the finished product? just my curiosity getting the best of me.

Hi 84whiteONwhite: well originally I thought I was rebuilding this body to send back to Nikininja so that he could use it to reassemble a guitar. However, he has been absolutely clear that he doesn't want it back. I argued, but no dice. The man has made his remarkably open-handed choice and we must gracefully abide by it.

So now I'm building it for me.

In due course you'll see some nice and pretty expensive hardware turning up on this thread, and I also have some thoughts about the neck. But more on that - later...

By the way, you SERIOUSLY don't want to hear me demo'ing the guitar. Nobody would be impressed by that! One of my brothers-in-law is a good player, perhaps I can try and get him to do something with it, though he lives far away.

Anyhow, thank you for your nice comments. And the same as always to everyone else.

More later.

Cheers - C

... Just a thought... I have no money of course  but you could auction it off, and donate the money to a childerns burn hospital, or start a scholarship fund for young wanna be craftsman

I hate to lengthen an already long list of posts with another glowing response but this is by far the most jaw dropping guitar build story I've seen. To see the work you've done so far is amazing. I wish I had a better word. I thought I was doing pretty well when I got around to fidgeting with my truss rod recently, lol. Wow. I've seen guys chisel out cavities in their guitars for extra pickups or drill out some extra control switches and knobs but to take out the entire middle section of the guitar body and replace it is mind blowing. I've only been playing for a couple of years and I admire the guys who have their old beaten down guitars because you know that they look at it and it's like a time capsule of their playing career. The story and blood, sweat and tears behind this bad boy is going to make this a priceless instrument for you. I can't wait for the latest update and more importantly the day when you get to show off the finished product. All I can say is thank you Ceri for sharing this with us.

Ah. Oh. :!:

That's very nice, as are everyone's extremely charming comments. Deeply appreciated as always: thank you so much.

So I'm afraid some people might not be to pleased with what I'm going to say next. I travel abroad a lot, which in these days of global internet connectivity wouldn't normally make a difference.

However, I have to go away - today - and I obviously can't take my project with me. Sorry.

Luckily, we've got things to a convenient pausing point, and obviously when I get back I shall dig this thread out of the bottom mud where it will have sunk and resume.

Think of it as End of Season One. Some storylines have been resolved, but new questions wait to be answered in Season Two. Which electronics? What finish? What about the neck...?

:?:

I leave you with this little comparison to recap the story so far:

I shall try and log on at the time to wish people a happy Christmas, but in the meantime - have a good one, y'all!!! :D

Cheers - C

Ceri,
Be safe in your travels and hurry back. I think most of us feel like our favorite t.v. show just went on hiatus. Looking forward to next season.

I agree about pretty wood grains. But in this case, the body was mult-piece body that now has even more pieces. And the pieces are of different species.

I would be concerned about a clear finish showing all those cuts, pieces, joints and differences in the woods/grains. Maybe a banding around the edges would help to cover all those layers?

Maybe, if it were finished like a burst with the solid color covering the edges. The join in the top would be minimally visible after the pickguard and bridge are installed. I think that would be acceptable. At least to me anyway.

My privately expressed idea was for a british racing green back and sides with a faux binding and a stained top.
Kind of like this

That would look jaw dropping with a rosewood board on it.
