Interesting, You know what they say about idle hands getting into trouble.
No intentions of jacking ceri's thread here, but did you pull the trigger on the Les paul trade? Just curious.

Nah I've given up on the idea of another gibson. Primarily because of the neck binding problem. During my search I've tried new, various price points, I even played customshop guitars with the problem. My 76 doesnt have it though. Unfortunately thats part of the future pension fund and lives under my bed at my moms. (yes i'm 37 with a wife and 3 kids and still have my old room available to me.)
I dont like the look of the unbound neck but cant get past the fret/binding issue. Thats ruled out studios and BFG's. So its tokai here i come. That little snag is a absolute deal breaker for me. I dont expect to pay £1500+ for a guitar and get anything short of perfection in the finish. Thats what gibson have built their customer base on after all. The cut above the rest guitar builder.

Ceri wont mind a little divertion. I asked his among others, advice on that LP too.

I always thought it was poplar or basswood. Its very light. It used to have a big purple vein running up near the forearm contour. Who knows what its made of now.
The purple would indicate poplar....... 8) Mike The Old Cabinetmaker....

hey I didnt guess too bad then for a philistine. Bet you dont want to see what I do to furniture that frustrates me, Mike.

My beater Strat is a tricked out modified '91 MIM and very lightweight with black finish. I'll just guess that it's probably poplar and leave the lighter fluid alone.

Good grief: last time I looked at this thread a few hours ago we were still on page one!!!

Halfway through uploading some pics, but I don't have time to post them now cos I'm running out the door. Going to a gig - Handel's Messiah... :D

I'll log on later tonight and show you some progress. Patience, people!

Cheers all - C

Ceri,
Great post man. I can't wait to see how you plan on attacking that huge crack in the bridge area. I learned a lot from your last fix, so this should be good.

Jay

As I stated in the other thread, the 'blue badger' is a master of discomfort. You know this is all for effect. Handel's Messiah happens every other month round here. This thread only happens once.

Wheres the sense of priority?

I don't want to see it all at once myself. I like having something interesting to read and look at every day or so. At last something different besides what color guitar I like, etc.

I think he does enjoy toying with us though. :P
