HEY, WHAT? Bandwidth exceeded? What the ____ does that mean?

I've been to Photobucket and my storage used is 56%. So what's this "bandwidth"? Is that the quantity of photos I've uploaded, or the amount of views they receive by people clicking on these pages?

Seems the little ____ers want $25 p.a. just for hosting my photos! Get outta here!

Anyone else know about this? I have a feeling this might be a monthly limit issue, is that right? Within which case the pictures come back tomorrow (first of May)?

The alternative is to transfer all my pix to another host - there's over 700 photos on this thread alone!!! My life is too short to do all that uploading and then edit the link in every post on this thread...

I've sometimes seen this "bandwidth exeeded" thing on other people's posts. Advice, please!

I have finished photos to show!!!

Cheers - C

It is indeed photobuckets monthly problem. I had it because of people saving the penguin gif, so I ditched it. It may take till next month to clear up.

Can't wait.

Exploring Photobucket's "Pro" account I found an option where if I buy an item from one of their advertisers I upgrade to Pro for free. So happens I was about to buy a white Ralph Lauren polo neck sweater from House of Fraser in any case, and that purchase qualifies.

So I've made the purchase, a polo neck is on its way to me - and Photobucket now say it will take up to a day to confirm my upgraded status.

So as of this moment we're no further forward!!! *^&%£%$"!!!!!

The pix should be back in hours, or at most by tomorrow, folks. Otherwise the ordure hits the fan... :!:

Sorry, people. Keeps things exciting though, don't it...?

Yes seen it atlast.

Now indulge me, how long did the nut take and where did you get the measurements for the offsets from? If you'd have asked I'd have sent you them.

That does look like Stephen Delft's nut to me.

Hi Nick: I don't pretend to understand the science of compensated nuts like you do. So I just copied the positions from a, um, certain well-known manufacturer. In fact, having never done this before I've erred on the side of caution and perhaps left them a touch too far towards the first fret, so's I can adjust them backwards if necessary once I get the guitar set up.

Also, I was working in a bit of a hurry last night and looking at it again I want to shape the top of the nut a bit more. Purely for cosmetic reasons.

How long? Put it this way: Earvana and Buzz Feiten are at no risk of competition from me. It took longer than that post maybe suggests...

On which: if I paid myself a generous dollar an hour, say, I guess I'd have to charge about $10,000 for this guitar.

Obviously I'm exaggerating. But not much! Bear that in mind, before anyone says they'd like to buy the finished guitar...

By the way, Nick: does the smell of grinding bone make you want to throw up? It turns my stomach every time... :?

Final pix later - C

Sadly I'm well used to it and it doesnt effect me anymore. Besides which I found the stone cutting blade on the dremel keeps all that smell and dust down. All you get is the smell of burning bone which is a bit more tolerable. I only ever cut the things in the garden. Here the wind is direct from Siberia, plenty of good ventilation.

The first one I carved took me three days. Your far better off to go towards the first fret and file back later if needed. Another reason why I dont want to sell preshaped nuts, but will gladly install em.
You just cant guarantee the accuracy of the things till their in and slots depth'd. That in itself provides a problem as the slot has to initialy be flatter than usual. Reason being if like me you like a lot less clearance than .02" on some strings and you file back. Your effectively lowering the slot height by going further into the angle (creating the break point). It's a nothing thing, just another part of my OCD. For all of that carry on I highly recommend the TB strobe tuner program (I just throw my zoomH2 into the laptop as a audio interface then put the H2 offcenter of the speaker.). Allow a couple of cents (flat)on the 2nd fret. The third fret should read about the same, the first fret should be bang on. Dont bother with the 5th frets as their problem interval in the scale. You may want to check the 4th fret, you should be very ok at this point though.
Of course thats all whilst you re-set the 12th fret to open string intonation at the saddle. (what a nightmare eh?)
http://www.tbstrobetuner.com/
Better than most and very inexpensive.

I liked the idea of visualy deciding where to slot the strings. No more mucking about for me, from now on.

Ceri --

This is the best thread ever to have graced the forums. Your beautiful work and painstaking attention to the minutiae of guitar building are more than just enthralling: they're suspenseful. Waiting for the next post is not unlike waiting, as a child, for Christmas morning. Thanks for the fun.

Just when I thought that I had seen it all I see a neck constructed out of old wood from a boat if I recall correctly then this crazy nut job (no pun intended) from a real piece of bone...from a cow. It's like watching MacGyver back in the day. I would have been impressed enough watching you put together a kit. This is simply magnificent. Wow.

Hoeycow, I've been following this thread since page 1.
& I can tell you, I was impressed with his wood working
repairing a broken burnt badly strat body and turning it into
a 2000-4000 dollar custom guitar.
Yeah ceri is top notch.
Let's just hope he doesn't get any form of post partum
depression once he's done with this baby, Lol

The Ultimate Thread. We should have annual forum awards for most informative etc. Although Ceri, Niki and Martian would clean up!

Thank the Maker I can see the pics now!
Whew! I thought I was a goner...

Wonderful stuff Ceri!
It's also my first opportunity to see your decal on the headstock??! Can't read it but it looks clever.

Interesting to me is seeing the neck with the rolled fret edges...it doesn't seem as severe as when you showed them in previous pics. I still would like to try that on my own and remembered you saying that one would just have to touch up the sanded edges on an already finished neck.

I put a question in the Tele forum about what would be the best product to do this since I have no clue...the post generated a lot of views but no answers. I'd appreciate if you could recommend something when you have the time.

All the best,
-T

People: as so, so many times before, thank you all most kindly! :D  :D

Tyronne, I found your question on the Tele Forum and posted a reply. Any further problems, just ask.

Doing some FINAL uploading to Photobucket, and then we'll be right back...

Cheers - C
