OK Ceri, that was better, though I am a bit upset that I didn't get a bevvy of my own

Oh Twelvebar, I just feel awful now!

To make amends I just ran downstairs to the, um, Mixology Department and ran this one up for you.

Last night it was the English Blackthorn: this one is the Irish Blackthorn. I have no idea why it has that name; there isn't a sloe within a mile of this recipe. Oh well:

* 1 1/2 measures of Irish whiskey
* 1 1/2 measures of Italian vermouth (hey, a different one from before if you notice. My drinks collection makes Alain's guitar collection look miniature...)
* 3 dashes of Pernod
* 3 dashes of Angostura bitters
* Serve over ice in a tall glass:

Try it. Honestly, if you like it your tastebuds need to go in for a re-tread. What a waste of good ingredients!!!

BTW: is there something really SERIOUSLY weird about mixing cocktails over the internet for someone you've never met who is five thousand miles away?

No, I thought not...

Chin-chin - C
Well Ceri, I am a little shy of halfway through a fitness program I through together. Part of reaching my beer belly-free plan requires not drinking until it is gone. (43 days since my last bevvy!!) This will become my celebratory cocktail when i reach my goal!

I swear to the heavens i have seen that headstock before, the shape and the angle really seem to ring a bell, I wonder if we have maybe both visited another forum? (i lurk on a few.)

Ha - take a glance if you can be bothered at my paunch in my blue T-shirt at the end of the Trash Body thread. I couldn't help noticing that and decided to do something about it. I've been gently losing pounds for a few months and just yesterday got on the scales to discover I am now spot on 154 lb / 70 kg. The target weight - job done! The result is to be seen in the sweater-up photo a couple of pages ago. :D

Which means I can now take a few calories in the form of drinks again. But:

Truly not! It's yuk - pick almost anything else. Hey, let me know when and we'll dream something up... 8)

Anyway:

Actually I honestly doubt it - this is the only forum I look at much. I wonder which you have in mind - care to link?

I do freely acknowledge the debt my headstock has to others. I was looking at Blade, Peavey, ESP and Lag in particular at the time I designed it. (Oh, and some seven foot grey tipped reef sharks I once dived with...) Though I didn't intend to copy any of those. In fact, I started out meaning to do something that would make the Parker Fly headstock look old and conservative by comparison. Sheet after sheet of sketches went by and gradually it came to look more and more like a normal six-in-line headstock.

Truth is, Fender hit on pretty much the architype straight out the trap on that one. Yet another reason to respect them.

I'll see if I can dig up a couple of my design sheets and scan them for you to see; I know I still have them somewhere. An object lesson in how you can start out intending to be radical and end up with something mainstream - cos that's what's best.

Later - C

Edit - to add the sharks...

Ceri, it was one of those 'tickle in the back of your mind' things. I must have seen something similar somewhere.

I think when your guitar is finally assembled, (which should be pretty close to when I reach my fitness goals, factoring in projected build time, and curing of finishes,) we as a group following your build, should put together a cocktail recipe, which we all assemble and make, and photograph(for proof,), so we can all toast the final 'unveil post'

Nothing promotes a sense of community like sharing a cocktail. We'll need to set up a thread where we submit recipes, and vote on which we shall share.

I think it need not be an original cocktail, but we need something suitably tasteful, maybe a bit fiery.

I think it's like three chord songs. There is just a finite limit to the possibilities. No matter what you come up with someone has been there before.

On headstocks Fender got there first and the rest of us are left scraping around trying to find tiny things to "improve". Or just change a bit. Or not even that.

A fun thread would be: "who can design a completely new headstock?" I bet we discover there ain't anything new under the sun on that one...

I'm curious to know if someone else is doing a tilted back Fender type peghead though. If only to see how they machine it. Just wait till you see the faff I have to run to doing mine... :D

And this time, really: good night all! - C

I have tried a few times, always ends up a lot like something else. It's hard to get funky, but still be functional.

Warmoth makes one. Not sure about any production guitars though.

(Hell - I just can't get away from the computer and to bed!!!)

Ah, but that is just my point. That is not a Fender type headstock; it's more of a Jackson or Ibanez model, in as much as the flat face starts from right up by the nut. It doesn't curve down from the nut to the face and then angle back.

It's hardly an earth shaking feature, I know, but for what it's worth that is the point of mine. And I haven't yet seen anyone else doing it exactly that way.

The closest I know of is Fender's own Eric Johnson Sig headstock. That one doesn't angle back but my understanding is they shaved two mil off the front so the face is that much further behind the plane of the fingerboard, which Eric feels is just enough to remove the need for stringtrees.

Bound to say, there is probably something a bit unhealthy about this stringtree fixation of mine if EJ shares it...

Now I'm off to bed with my German dictionary to work on Tanner's post... :D

Cheers all; bottoms up - C

G'nite Ceri

If someone wanted to ask you a question without posting here, how would he go about it?

Yes! I noticed the "Smoky Martini" some many pages back. I am making notes on the recipes seen here.

I brought a bottle of Lillet to a Birthday-Martini party for my sister-in-law.
My brother-in-law was quite pleased to see and try it ...
