Howdy all,

Rumor has it that Fender was going to redesign the American Deluxe series (as it's been the same for 5 years), but the economy tanked and postponed that plan. Now that the economy is starting to show signs of life again, I'm wondering what is instore for the American Deluxe line. I'm a fan (having both a Strat and Tele), and would be in-line to purchase a new version.

Personally, I'd like to see a thinner finish (pref Nitro with no poly undercoat, but that's asking a lot I know), less blocky looking saddles. Probably change the pups (although I like my SCNs, I know that it is sort of a love it or hate it thing with folks). Maybe go back to the traditional body shape for the Tele and more of the '50's extreme contour on the strat?

Anyway,
Peace!

That sounds awesome. Anything is possible, ofcourse!

I'd love to see modern strats/teles released with a stright-up nitro finish.

I guess we'll have to wait to see what happens.

Even in the 50's they had a fullerplast undercoat so its unlikely. What are the merits of cellulose over urethane? I have both types and hear no difference that could be put down to the paint.

hi Gr8tfulEd: well that all seems to pretty much describe an Am '57 Reissue, or perhaps an Eric Johnson Sig. So I don't think you need to wait in the hope that Fender will turn the Deluxe into the guitar you want...

To me, the poly's really look like they are coated. The nitros appear to have a more delicate appearance.

To me, that's a big part of it. Plus, I like a guitar to age with me, and show that. I've seen some modern finishes that felt like you could drag them behind a car and not scratch 'em.

Ah Doc you can get urethane just as thin. My custom classic's finish is much the same as the hotrods cellulose one. The overly high gloss of polyester can be unattractive. Thats why I kick my cheapo guitars bodies around the garden a bit. That tends to knock the shine off em.

Or theres always lighter fluid, remember this solution

Hey Nick, have you got a picture of what that body looked like after the fire?

Pish, that's nothing. I bet that would be easy to fix.

Nah, I don't think Nick's got it in him. Unless, of course, he'd care to prove me wrong...

We could use a new build thread for the new year, Mr. Ninja. 8)

Sadly my neck build is on hold till warmer weather lands. Were now near 0 celsius and below. Its the time of year specificaly set aside for my enjoyment and copius amounts of beer. Not mucking around in the back yard with bits of wood. I have to do that in the summer to divert my attention from the heat.
