Post subject: When made? Serial number question.

I looked up the serial number section of this website to see when my Strat was made. I have E4.....
The site says pre CBS sale: E4 + 5 digits
Post CBS sale E4 + 5 5 digits anywhere from 85 to 88.
What does 55 digits (Can't be fifty five) mean? How can I tell?

Take the neck off and look at the date on the neck heel.
