I have the opportunity to buy a 2000 Fender American Stratocaster, Made in USA with H/S/S pickup configuration (fat strat) for a really good price. However, I personally prefer S/S/S configurations. My question is = how feasible is it to replace the humbucker at the bridge with a new single-coil? Obviously I would need to replace the pickguard and most likely change the 500k pot to a 250K, but is that all that is needed? Particularly, I am wondering whether the large cavity will have any significant effect on the sound - and, pardon my ignorance - but are the bodies (under the pickguard) cut differently for the regular strats than for the fat strats? Any feedback is much appreciated - thanks!

Welcome.

It is most feasible.

The pots all should be 250K already, believe it or not.

The large cavity would be there even if you bought the S/S/S configured one; there is no significant effect on the sound.

Make sure you buy the right scratchplate/pick guard. I think the guitar you have is an 11 screw hole plate, so thats what you want. Just check though, that its not an 8 hole plate.
