Somehow I always thought all Strat machine head tuners were staggered, but apparently not.

I viewed a web photo of an Eric Johnson strat equipped with staggered tuners, but from the photo, I can't see the difference between his tuners and most others. I realize some have slots cut in for easier string threading, but I don't think this has anything to do with being "staggered".

Could someone point me at some close up photos of staggered and non-staggered tuners so I can see the difference between them?

Thanks for your time.

Lester

>slots cut in for easier string threading<

The slots are more of a LOCKING deal, making it so the string is less apt to slip on the peg.

Staggered;

It's all about (more) down pressure on the nut. Improves string tension and tuning stability.

The pegs are different heights (staggered)
