I have a deluxe players fender strat, and just bought a 1960s fender relic roadworn strat. I can plug in my deluxe players to my amp and there is no buzz, and only a small buzz on the drive channels. But if i plug in the 1960s relic it buzzes even on the clean channel. And the amp is buzzing not the guitar (just to get the confusion out of the way). Even with my gibson there is not a buzz, but for some reason with that 60s relic it buzzes?

Any help?

Your Deluxe Players and (most likely) your Gibson both have humbucking pickups whereas your Roadworn does not. What you are experiencing with the Roadworn is 60 cycle hum from the single coil pickups.

Some of the road worns I have encountered had a buzz that was not related entirely to 60 cylce hum. Does the hum decrease if you are touching the strings? Or is it a consistent hum? If it goes away when you touch the strings or metal parts of the guitar it's my opinion that there is a ground issue somewhere.

If it goes away or decreases when you touch the strings or metal parts of the guitar, that is most indicative of typical 60 cycle hum. If it didn't upon touch, then there is a ground issue somewhere.

Well then, like I said, because of the single coil pickups you have in it, the guitar is indeed behaving normally.

ok thanks, the weird thing is though, i had the amp setting on carpet in a different room with the 60s plugged in and the buzz was awful, then i moved it to a room in my house with tile flooring and the buzz was gone! so i played again today in the same tiled room and the buzz is back? I love the clean warm tone of strats and if i say change my amp from twang (it buzzes unless im playing or touching metal or strings) to a clean channel (it does not buzz until i play or touch strings) is kind of weird. I dont like the buzz at all

Just turn your amp up higher. The buzz will go away then. :P

Well now, you've just added another factor onto the equation: Your house wiring would be the apparent cause of the hum anomalies. Again, single coil pickups are antennas for stuff like this. If it is really getting to you, you may want to consider changing the OEM single coil set to some kind of stacked HB set. YMMV.

well my brother is an electrician and told me to take the amp and guitar to my parents room who have a grounded connection, the buzz was still there also. so i guess it would have to be the pickups? if thats the case i might have to go ahead and order a different set of pickups or exchange the 60s for something different?

Yes. You've apparently done all you can to accommodate them. It now comes down to this: If you are not thoroughly enjoying the OEM set, then it's time for them to go. I don't think you'll be able to 'exchange' them, per se though. Rather, a tech (if he or she wanted them) might give you a few dollars off the installation price of a new set but that's about it. You are better off trying to sell the set or even trade it privately.
